what is cache in HDDs and SSDs? what does it do?
Its memory on the HDD that speeds up access to the data as its quicker to retrieve from teh cache than the HDD spindles. More is usually better however the cacheing algorithim that the HDD manufacturer uses can also have an impact on its effectiveness.

Typically these days HDDS come with 64Mb of cache.
