Rep??

Thread Starter
Hi all,smile.gifsmile.gif

I have read the explanation about various rules etc regarding Rep and in terms of posting some thing that is beneficial to the site, what would qualify?

I have a Thermaltake case and matching PSU I thought I might list in the "for sale" area..

I see I need 35 Rep points..

So I read about Rep..

Luckily I am in no hurry because I am wondering how I might reach the heady heights of 35 Rep points..

I am happy to partake more in the forum over a period of time if that will help, but that is why i asked what would be am example of some thing that benefits the forum?thumb.gif

Also since the idea is that the more rep points you have the more you will be viewed as a "top member" I am not sure my knowledge base is strong enough to ever be regarded as that anyway?tongue.gif

Does that mean that listing an item for sale on the forum is limited to an elite club of space odyssey experts?

I am all for "power members" who have bundles of expert experience and are generous with their time and knowledge, and an elite type club or some recognition would be sensible and rightly deserved.

But to limit a lowly peasant member from listing an item for sale. particularly when that member may not have any real hope of gaining uber-Rep status based on their own experience or knowledge is possibly a tad unjust?

I only mention this out of interest. I am not concerned too much, or more probably worthy of huge amounts of Rep, and I would never categorize myself as a "top member" - although one can dream..biggrin.gif

I would just like, at some point, to be able to list an item for sale for the mutual benefit of everyone.

Which is why I would like to know what examples define "contributing to the forum" so that I may properly manage my expectations and avoid becoming heart broken after 10 more years and still zero worth, I mean Rep.smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif

I will not be able to reply immediately as I am in the final stages of refitting my Haswell modified 5.0L V8 Range Rover petrol engine in to Jaws, my trusted Goldfish.thumb.gifthumb.gif

I'd like to give you more details, but you don't have enough Rep I'm afraid. hehehe...Sorry. tongue.gif

If you want to get some rep then just reply to other peoples threads with something constructive and you may get some rep for it. You don't always get it every time you help someone out, but if you contribute enough then you'll get to 35 pretty quickly tongue.gif

(Hint, hint, the appraisals section might be a good place to look wink.gif)

look through the unanswered part of the forum - http://www.overclock.net/forum/newposts/filter/unanswered

See if you can help other members there and that can usually yield some decent rep.

Thanks Scott, I will do that.

I see over two years you have 877 posts and the magic 43 Rep...

that's 1 Rep point for approximately 20 posts..

I have a grand total of around 5 posts...

My overclock.net CPP "(Career Path Planner) is indicating that I will be able to list my item for sale in about 4 - 5 years, with " top member " status possibly featuring as early as year 13..Yippeee..smile.gif

Maybe THEN I'll get that girlfriend..thumb.gif

I wonder does the system work as it should or is there a better way.. or maybe slightly lower Rep requirement?

Either way, I will crack away as you have suggested.

(By the way Scott if you know anything about Foxconn boards and the old Conroe E6420 then please help me out in the Intel CPU forum..)

Many thanks

All of my rep apart from 6 was gained this year tongue.gif I just used to post in the off topic section until recently venturing out again into the vast expanses of the full site wink.gif

If you make a few posts per day then I'd guess you would have what you need in a month, 2 at the most.

I can tell you I have given out over double the rep I've recieved. Most people seem to ignore the feature.

However, if you really help someone out they should rep you. Look around in the OS sections for pleas of help, and as mentioned above the appraisals. Stay out of the news forums for rep-gathering purposes. There's no rep to be had there unless you post a particularly useful article, which is unlikely.

Welcome to OCN!

I agree i have some really nice components i want to get rid of and i have been a member for over 6months. and seeing people wit ridiculous posts and almost no rep is quite daunting. I am in other forums with maxed out rep s its not like i can't get rep but it seems like its too difficult for this site
