Which should I upgrade for Planetside 2?

I have been playing PS2 for a while now and it's my favorite game. However, I hit a lot of lag spikes (mostly in big battles) and want to know of its my RAM or CPU that I need to upgrade. I know it isn't my GPU because its the same no matter how I change the graphics settings. I have an i3-2120 CPU @ 3.3 GHz (dual core and 2 more if you count Hyper Threading). For RAM I have 4 GB of G.Skill Ripjawz X @ 1600 MHz. I planned on getting another 4 GB anyway so I don't want to but an i5 yet and find out that the problem was not having enough ram. If it's any help my GPU is an EVGA GTX 560 SE.

PS2 is fairly ram intensive, getting 4 more GB will help, but I've got a slightly different thing that'll help you get some more frames, and it's free.

Turn off shadows.

As in go to:
C:\Users\Public\Sony Online Entertainment\Installed Games\PlanetSide 2\

Open:
UserOptions.ini

Find:
ShadowQuality=

and set it to 0.

This will cut back a lot of work your CPU has to do, and should help get your frame rate a little higher until you can get a new CPU. An i5 is still recommended, but this can help until then.

Lower the draw distance to ~2000, maybe even lower than that (1500 or 1000) and give it a go.

Also make sure you have PhysX disabled.

Thanks, that made it a lot better, haven't had any lag since I lowered the distance
