What could have caused this?

Thread Starter
I just had a power cut at my house, and when turning my machine back on, the bios screen was fine, but when it entered windows, only the very top row of pixels on my monitor had colours, and they were all scrambled, the rest of the screen was black.

The top row of pixels were "Jittering" like it was showing something but it was squished.

The right side of the monitor (of the top row of pixels) were black, and the colours were more pronounced closer to the top left corner.

I powered down my machine, drain the power out, and cold booted again, and the same thing happened.

I checked my bios settings, configs, everything was fine.. I then turned it back on (this was like the 4th time) and just let it sit there with its scrambled screen.

After about 5 minutes the computer rebooted itself, started booting, then 3-4 seconds into the boot (Just after posting) it rebooted again.

This time it went into windows again, and my screen was back to normal and the system seems to be working fine again.

Years of messing with computers and had power loss, I've never had this happen before. Something to be concerned about?

I have my computer plugged into a surged protector rated for a spike protection of 1928 Joules and 62000 Amps.

Something like that? The colors where all scrambled at first, after a long while they arranged themselves into that helix like pattern.

Well at this point I would start the standard hardware test procedures. Unplug absolutely everything, internal and external, even your video card if you have onboard and all but 1 ram chip. All you want is keyboard mouse monitor OS drive and one mem chip. Then start booting andd testing (stabiliy tests like prime 95 and furmark) for a few minutes, assuming you can get back into windows. If all goes well start plugging things back in till it pops. Also, it wouldnt hurt to reset the bios. I might try that first.
