6800gt died, now need upgrade advice

Thread Starter
well after more than 2 and a half years my 6800gt bit the dust. since im still in the agp era im not sure what to do. i see myself as having one of three otions: 1) get a new agp card, 2) get a pci-express mobo and card, or 3) get a sli mobo and 1 card. Looking at newegg some of the sli mobos seemed less expensive, or about the same interms of price.
Right now i have a s939 3200+ winny and a 1gig of corsair xms pc3200 ram.
I will be overclocking, so i will need a very overclockable mobo if i go with that route. here is what im looking at for each option.

1): For an agp car either get a 6800xt, a 6800gs, or a 7600gt. if im going with just a new agp card i am not looking to spend more than $160 usd or so.

For both the second and third options im looking at one of these cards: 6800gs, x1900gt, 7900gs, and the cheapest x9150 i can find. is there another card less than 200 dollars card i should be looking at?
For mobos im looking at these:

ABIT KN8 Ultra Socket 939
DFI NF4 INFINITY
DFI nF4 Ultra-Infinity
DFI RS482 INFINITY
GIGABYTE GA-K8NF-9
msi k8n neo4
ASUS A8N5X

sli boards: EVGA 131-K8-NF44-AX
DFI nF4 SLI Infinity
EVGA 123-K8-NF47-AX
abit kn8 sli

as i said before i will be overclocking, so if i should go with a new mobo it should be very overclockable. all together for options 2 and 3 everyhting should be less than $230-240 usd. Now i turn it over to you guys to tell me what i should get, since i am a confused boy that is deprived of video games. im open to any recomendations, because right now i am stuck.

edit: was just looking on newegg. the x1800gto or x1800xt seem like very good cards. however why is there such a big price jump between these three cards? i know two of them are crossfire, but that shouldnt make them $50 to 70 more. sapphire x1800gto at $120, connect3D x1800gto at $190, GECUBE X1800GTOD-VID3 at $170. what is VID3? what would you guys say about an open box x1800xt?

im going to bed, as you guys can see im quite confused/stuck about what to buy. hope someone can help me.

I'd spend a little more on your motherboard... and get this:
DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra $104.99. Simply the best overclockable socket 939 board there is.

For the video card, I'd look at an 7600GT:
eVGA 256-P2-N615-TX GeForce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 $129.99 - $20 MIR = $109.99

That totals $234.98 - $20 MIR = $214.98

I would not spend a whole lot more on the video card right now, since in about half a year DX10 will really start taking over ... Thus, get this really good motherboard , and this still pretty capable mid-range video card.

with dx10 coming out, which i forgot about, and the fact that this summer i will build a new comp, maybe i should spend less on a vidcard. what about a x1800gto?

edit: it seems that i will go with chozarts board choice, but now im stuck between a 7600gt and a x1800gto. seems to me that they are about the same.

Yeah, you should probably go with whatever is cheaper and can tide you over 'til your rebuild.

"with dx10 coming out, which i forgot about, and the fact that this summer i will build a new comp, maybe i should spend less on a vidcard."

QFT!

I would definately not spend money on a nice vid card right now.
I've had to peel myself away from the comp several times now to keep from getting a nice card... since Ill just be getting a new one in a month or two.

I bought an x1600 a few months ago just to hold me over.
It will def outperform a 6800gt and its highly overclockable.
Im running at +50c/+100(200)mem atm with probably the poorest cooling ever. When I get the new build (or very close to it) Im gonna try to get the x1600 up to x1900 specs on liquid.
It's definately doable, Im just not sure how stable it's going to be =P

But anywho... I would def save money now and build a better rig around a DX10 card later.
Chances are games are mostly not going to use the DX10 effects for a while... but you don't wanna be the one guy who can't use some awesome effect... like HDR. I couldn't run HDR on my Rad9700 and it blew cuz my freinds with 6800GTs could =/

If you are talking about an x1600pro it will not beat a 6800GT and an x1600xt is about equal to one. The x1800gto is a more powerful card than the 7600gt by a little. The x1800gto is equivalent to a 7800gt.
