8350 BUILD QUESTIONS

Thread Starter
http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/13KIT

thats my build.

Will the phanteks handle the overclocked 8350 fine? (4.6-4.8ghz if the chip is lucky) will the phanteks be good?

Also, will the phanteks handle a overclocked 8350 and the 780's?

is my motherboard good?

Windows 8 pro or windows 8 normal?

which one is better in performance?
Phanteks is great. Your motherboard is dandy. Windows 8 Pro is better if you want to use the professional features. Pretty much identical in performance. The only reason I run Windows 8 Pro is for Remote Desktop.

does the phanteks have a pre applied thermal paste(I hope not)

is my thermal paste good how long should i repaste?
I'm not too keen on the Noctua paste and I never stick with pre-applied paste, I prefer Arctic Silver 5 and I have used it in all of my builds. It's great stuff. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100007

k my friend just fixed my build

http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/14IOy

should i get 4GBx2 or 1 8GB?

http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/14IOy

is that thermal paste good cause i seen different types of artic silver

also if i get artic silver do i need to repaste it again after a few months of years cause i dont want to repaste it again.

DOES THE phanteks 14pe have preapplied?

2x4GB if you do not plan on expanding your memory (8gb should be more than enough). Running two dimms in dual channel is better than running one dimm in one channel.

also i hear as5 has 200hours curing time whats curing time
post #9 of 185
You shouldn't have to repaste if you don't want to. Quad-channel severely kills overclocks. Curing time is just the amount of time it takes for the paste to become most effective at it's job, heat transfer between the CPU and heatsink.

build looks good!

just a few questions:

1. why the define xl? you planning on a ton more drives in the future or watercooling? its a sweet looking case but just asking why so big if not needed. but if its a monolithic build with expandibility in mind then good to go thumb.gif

I think the phanteks will be fine. its a great high end cooler. I would possibly suggest though that you make sure to investigate how easy they are to install.

I have the noctua nh-d14 and its a beast cooler with similar performance to the phanteks. I personally trust noctua a bit more bc of thier customer servide and build quality. (phanteks is known to have a few bent fins etc every now and then)

if you diont like the noctua colors just get some corsair sp 120 or af 140 and use them on it for better look if you'd like

Motherboard is the highest price gigabyte board and probably great, but 8350 is newer board so you may need a bios update to make it work. asus sabertooth r 2.0 or r 3.0 are fully ready for the 8350 so you may want to do a spec comaprison and reviews compare on newegg

unless your doing some serious specified work or networking then the pro version of windows is not necessary really from what i understand.....basically if your just doing home usage and you dont already know you need it, then likely hood is that you dont need it. it really only adds extra functions to networking and virtual machine situations etc.

performance in gaming or running programs will be no different. all thats added is extra features not performance. hope this helps thumb.gif
