Amd Prices down more than expected! - Page 2

I'm not going for AMD. Check out the capabilities of Conroe

Paying a several dollar difference, you could get a e6600.
Unless your hardcore AMD. It's just not something I can buy right now. If I bought AMD again, they'd have to improve. Intel Kinda made it impossible for AMD's old stuff to compete, even with lower prices

Thats wrong..

Difference between a 3800X2 and a E6300 is $50.

Thats $50 more on a graphics card. That bump up in a graphics card would then let you play games at higher settings than the E6300. AMD appeals to budgets, which alot of people are on.

To me that 3800 X2 looks very very nice... 130$... over 50%OC
They're launching a number of X2s (If I remember correctly, 5400, 5600, 5800 and 6000) in the near future and they are both 2x512kB and 2x1MB parts, why they discontinued 2x1MB chips for a little while and then are bringing them back is beyond me.

???

To upgrade to an Opty 165 would cost me £100, to get myself a E6300, new ram and a new mobo would end up coming to almost triple that!

My current build is only 7 months old. Maybe the FX 62 will drop a little bit more, as well as the other FX's.
I was recommending it because you said if the fx-62 dropped some more I might get it. Well, heck the 5200+ is an fx-62 without unlocked multipliers. So, I was suggested to get the 5200+. You said you might go for Amd then you said you would never unless they improve........

AMD discontinued the use of 2x1mb L2 cashe so it could be used exclusively on the FX's in the future. The AM2 65nm's will be as equally fast as the counterparts even with less cashe, but offer the potential to overclock much higher, and run at lower temps from "DOWN-sizing" the chips. also lower wattage.

hopefully the K8L architecture will help amd tie up with c2d CPU's, but this is unlikely, as amd is saving their new architechture for the REAL socket AM3 procs.

Hey man, Chill.

Now First off, I never mentioned a 3800+. where that came into this is beyond me.

If I need a new mainboard, ram, and prcoessor, it makes sense to pay $309.00 instead of $287.00. A bit more for the Conroe, sure. Have you seen benches comparing the two?> If I'd rather spend 22 bucks more on a Conroe, it's my prerogative. I need a ram upgrade, my board sucks for supporting ram. Or at least anything with higher voltage requirements.

I'm not bustin on anyone who chooses a 3800+. I'm just looking to the future, and it doesn't seem like AMD's performance line will be staying with AM2.

Nor did I say people had to go Conroe.

Such animosity...

gre, you already have an amd mobo, so what do you mean? im not sure what your ranting about (no offense) but you have an amd mobo, to purchase a dualcore amd would be like $130 for the X2 3800, and i would reccomend another gig-O-ram for ur build, and u would be set untill teh 65nm CPUS are out. do you need the performance gain of c2d?
