This is so infuriating! Windows 8 won't boot in UEFI mode!!

Someone please help me before I lose all sanity, for the past few hours I've been trying to install Windows 8 in UEFI mode, to no avail, and I'm at my limits.

I'm running an ASrock Z77 Extreme4, and I have a blank hard drive setup as a GPT drive.

I've formatted this 8gb flash drive as GPT & MBR several times each, using command prompt and Rufus between all my tries.

I have secure boot disabled, I have a GPT drive to install to, my flash drive has been setup to work on a UEFI machine from Rufus time and time again, and it just won't boot!

It's a 64 bit ISO for god's sake! I dumped it from my disk! My last try I used xcopy commands to dump the iso contents to the drive, and now I can boot the flash drive in USB mode, but not UEFI mode. What a breakthrough mad.gif

Doesn't matter whether or not I have CSM on, it just ain't happening.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm running a 3570k and a 7950 with UEFI GOP support if that helps.

Try Universal USB Installer to burn the ISO to the flash drive. It's what I use, and it works for me. I too have the Z77 Extreme4.

do you have a camera? turn off your pc, insert your usb to one of usb 2.0 ports, turn pc on then go to your boot options, you should be able to see two boot options for your usb alone, one is listed as uefi. take a picture of boot options for me please.

your usb flash drive format doesn't matter, and even if the flash drive is empty it should still be listed in the boot options.

I have tried all my 2.0 and 3.0 ports, give me a moment to grab a picture, then I'll be trying the posted USB installer

How to make a bootable Windows 8 USB Installer with CMD:
Open and run CMD as Administrator
Type Diskpart, press Enter
Type List Disk, press Enter
Type Select Disk # (where # is the number your USB drive shows up as), press Enter
Type Clean, press Enter
Type Create Partition Primary, press Enter
Type Active, press Enter
Type Format Quick FS=FAT32, press Enter
Type Assign, press Enter
Type Exit, press Enter
Copy everything from the Windows 8 installation DVD onto the USB key (a simple drag and drop will do; if you have an .iso extract or mount first).

follow that guide then i'll walk you through on how to boot from it.

This is the exact guide I followed earlier, this guide let me boot as USB but not as UEFI

This picture is crap but I Have the drive as priority in UEFI mode so I know it wont try to boot in USB mode.

Also, when I hit F11 and try to boot manually from the drive in UEFI mode, the screen flashes black and returns me to the boot device screen. From there USB still works mellowsmiley.gif

It's as if the launcher is looking for boot files specifically for UEFI booting that aren't there, forcing it to return to the menu

I need to see the list of what it can booot to, click on the drop down menu.
You can just type here the options that you got in that drop down list.

Give me about ten minutes to get into my bios, Because I'm formatting the flash drive again and I'm sure it's not gonna work lol
