Good heatsink for Haswell

Thread Starter
Hi. I'm looking for a good heatsink to cool my new i5-4670K rig. Don't even mention water cooling. Oh and i'm going to overclock to like 4GHz, maybe more depends if the cooler will be good enough. smile.gif

Really depend on your budget, but 4ghz should be hard to achieve with a hyper 212+ for 30$.

Well its a new build (and expensive) so I don't care about the price. I came across this, looks very nice and seems decent: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-005-BQ&tool=3

You should be able to hit 4ghz on pretty much any cooler. If you are only looking for a mild OC, I would look in the $30-$65 range. That way you'll have the ability to clock higher if you want, or just take advantage for the better cooling to run things really quiet.

Personally I would consider the Noctua NH-U12s, which will give you both plenty of OC capability and good acoustics. I like the NH-U12s because out of the box every piece of it is top notch, unlike most coolers where I immediately replace the fan.

Of course you could always go with the ubiquitous Hyper-212/EVO (which I presume fits 1150? I'm not really caught up on Haswell). It'll cool things, but the stock fan is rather poor and there are better options in the price range or a few bucks more. Hmm, I'm gonna educate myself on 1150 compatibility before I list specific coolers, ha.

Also, when you say no water cooling, are you referring to big full loop systems? The newer closed-loop coolers are pretty much in the same league as decent air coolers with regards to cost and simplicity.

That's actually a very nice cooler.

Worth considering, I use one myself.

BeQuiet! Dark Rock Pro 2 is one of the best coolers out there right now. Better cooling than NH-U14S which is better than NH-U12S.

Air is much simpler than water. All there is to fail is fan. Never heard of an air cooler failing unless you consider lapping thought the pipes in base or cutting off the top of pipe is failing. Water has pump and that makes it much more complicated.. CLC coolers are real water cooler wannabee's. biggrin.gif

That BEQuiet cooler is massive, so make sure you have the room smile.gif

I bought a Thermalright true spirit 140, which will be built Tuesday night (11th), once I am satisfied with my build, I shall be entering the daily overclock club, and seeing where I can take my 4670k smile.gif
btw, I chose the Thermalright because of 2 things, great reviews and the fan colour scheme smile.gif

The specs for Socket 1150 are exactly the same as Socket 1155 when it comes to HSF mounting and such.
