AMD FX-6100 vrs. a Intel Duo Core 3.06, E7600

Ok Intel fan boys... I really do not need a ****storm in here... this is why I "upgraded" to an AMD FX-6100.
I had a beer budget for this build... and desperate to just get back online for entertainment, etc.

My xfx780i motherboard believe it or not got killed by plugging a microphone into my 600T corsair case... the 'zap" which was not expected at all was so strong it shut my whole system down with the quickness. I checked and rechecked all of my connections.. and I guess ESD is a really mofo... and wanted to assassinate my board.

Now... here's the rest of the story... I am currently living in Taipei. My mandarin is pure **** tier maybe 2nd grade level so I dont starve, etc.

So I had to do my own research, and I obviously didnt do enough because I uncovered a war of Intel fan bois just ripping AMD users a new ass on this chip's supposed weaknesses.
you would think I would have a neverending sea of CPU/MB choices to be made here in Taiwan.
Since we manufacturer practically everything here. Well, that is not the case at all.

Oh, if you want the latest and greatest hell yea... you got so many choice. But if you got a budget where its pay rent, etc... your choices get limited... and thats where budget shopping is practically unheard of here. For example at the night markets you could buy covers for your iphone 4 everywhere, soon as iphone 5 came out... overnight all the iphone 4 cases disappeared... probably tossed in the ocean by the millions. I have an iphone 3 I will never find a case for it. LOL!

I intended on getting the FX-6200, but they did not have it. I have to take a bus.. and all that jazz to go home empty handed? F' it, it was a minor savings in cash... so I purchased a fresh 1TB HD.

Now I did find a vendor selling intel 775 MB... but they had horrible specs compared to the xfx 780i which is an old board (2008) but 3 way SLI, and many other features at a great price.
Compared to the crumbs of 775 MB's left to scrounge through with limited mandarin.

So the FX-6100 in my estimate was a good upgrade from the Duo core. I would like some opinions / flames. I'm ready for it.

The Intel 3.06 was overclocked easily to 3.33 with stock fan. Which was the starting point for the AMD FX-6100 in my mind... it's technically an upgrade.

But I did a comparison: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core2-Duo-E7600-vs-AMD-FX-6100

You tell me.. did I win or lose? 6 cores vrs. 2 cores? Who really cares 1 core can beat up another core in a 1-on-1 fight?

All I know is, I just got done playing BF3 in ultra setting on a 64 player server... and it played flawless... and not hot.
I did the AMD overclock and it says I am now at 3.6 I hope with some help to get into the 4.0 zone.

My new specs:
AMD FX-6100
MSI 970A-G43
8 gigs Transcend 1600
At this point: I paid about $300 ... including 1 WD Black Cavier drive. The rest I already had.

MSI 560 GTX Twin Frozr (1 gig)
5 HD's of Black / Blue Cavier
Corsair 600T SE White

Previous build circa 2008:
XFX 780i
Intel Duo Core 3.06 e7600 overclocked 3.33 on stock fan
800 OCZ memory
MSI 560 GTX Twin Frozr (1 gig)
6 HD's of Black / Blue Cavier
a local brand case, which is a fantastic build by Yangto or something like that. Lots of features.

Anything and everything is a good upgrade from a core 2 duo. They once ruled the desktops but today they should just be thrown away.

Well, I know the MB got fried... I really am not sure if the Intel CPU got fried... or if I lost my 800 mhz memory too.
I was really hoping to make a spare computer out of this and xbmc it with a vcard 9800 I got sitting around.

The MB has a blue LED lit up.. but I cant get this thing to start up at all... even with a new PSU that I purchased.
Just that damn blue LED on the board laughing at me... why wont this biznatch fire up?

I triple checked and reinstalled EVERYTHING on that xfx780i board... no dice.
So I assume the chip is dead? What do you think?
I can get a 755 MB for about $45 here.
but its not worth it, if its dead obviously.

The ESD blast must have been epic.
I should contact corsair... but they probably wont do anything.

I'm not sure a Core 2 Duo should be thrown away, clock for clock my core 2 duo folds as well as my phenom II x4. However the faster memory bandwidth and more modern instruction set is a healthy improvement. I'd say a 6 threaded amd chip with 8gb of ram, mobo, and a 1tb hdd for $300 was a fair price, I suspect you'll be very happy with your upgrade thumb.gif

For some reason I was thinking he had a Conroe and not a wolf dale. While the wolfdales were great in 2009 they're not going to be able to handle much in today's world.

Another happy FX6100 owner smile.gif
I imagine you gained some FPS in BF3, maybe 10 more FPS compared to the E7600?

FPS is fantastic... but I forget what the command in BF3 is to check. But I see a huge difference.
I got a bunch of kills in CQB, that were straight up amazing... my mind was preparing for the lag that never happened. I was jumping out of tanks to take out RPG positions with my pistol, etc. Fun times.

I have a minor problem though with the headphone sound from my Corsair T600 case's front panel ... the sound is pure ****... like ambient, muted. I gotta get an RMA going on this front panel ASAP.
Plugged directly into the MB (MSi 970A-G43) was no issue.
