will ivy bridge-e suffer from heat issues

i know they are not out yet so this is a ? that can't be answered with facts. I just wonder if the the intel e series will suffer problems with heat. I see many forum that state that haswell is a hot chip. If this is true sandy may be the last chip that can be overclocked heavily without serious cooling and modifying your cpu. I wonder if intel will ever solve this problem and if not will the extreme chips suffer as well. I currently have a i7 3930k i run @ 4.7ghz 24/7. I have hit 5.1 ghz before but it starts getting pretty hot. If they do fix the problem on the extremes then that is going to suck for a lot of people that don't buy 500-1000$ cpus. I build alot of pcs for all my friends and none of them are ever going to drop that kind of money on a cpu. They like me to overclock there cpu to a moderate level but i won't be able to with these heat issues at hand. I really hope it gets fixed for ivy bridge e and haswell e. I also don't want to see broadwell to suffer from these problems. I mean do you think that the days of overclocking are coming to an end. If only the extremes are able to oc without crazy temps then a lot of people are not going to be overclocking in a few years. I hear you can take apart the cpu to fix this issue and i don't really thing i want to do that. If the heat issues never stop then i may not have a choice once my sandy-e gets old.

Why are you asking questions no one has the specific answer to and can only speculate?

cause i am worried about it, cause i plan to stick with the e series. i know no one can answer this. I sure hope the e series don't suffer from such things. If i buy a thousand dollar cpu i want it to overclock with out Delidding. I hope all of intels cpus can be overclocked without such things by the time broadwell hits.I knew no one had an answer for me but i was at least hoping some one would give me some hope on the matter. I am afraid overclocking well be left for only those who wish to modify there cpus I wouldn't want to do that on a e series chip. They are way to expensive to risk the chance of delidding.

I love some of the the conspiracy theories on this site..certainly an interesting read.. its as if you're expecting someone from intel to answer tongue.gif

not to be a nay sayer, but the PC Client market is taking a turn, heading towards smaller form factors..etc..so who knows.

One can speculate however that since the E series is Intel's flagship desktop processor and has a much higher TDP than the K series, they may still focus on higher end cooling solutions.

Sure, mobile is a big focus now, but those Mobile CPU's are NOT running multiple VM's or rendering anything remotely close to Intel's Sandy-E CPU's.

As far as the heat issue, well....I'm not sure how much these share in common with the mainstream IVY's, but for the normal i5/i7 Ivy Bridge, it's generally warmer than the previous SandyBridge i5/i7's. I'm not sure if that's actually relevant to the Enthusiast line of CPU's though.

I'd expect at least the same heat levels, definitely not a decrease. However, with the IPC increase, you'll still be getting more done with a lower clock.

I'm curious if the chip will need delidding. I have gotten considerably good on using the razor method but when the chip might cost 2x more than the 3770K is what will put me under a lot of pressure.

Might not be since its a bigger die then IVY so they might use soldering.

Isn't the increased heat on Ivy and Haswell caused mostly by the integrated GPU?
Since the -E series does not have the integrated GPU, they should have more room to devote to clock speed.

exactly i mean if i destroy a 300$ cpu i would be pretty upset but if i destroy a 1k cpu my wife would leave me and i would prob have slip into a coma or at least go into shock. I just hope this isnt the end of cpu overclocking as we know it(or at least heavy overclocking) i just built my first custom loop just to receive a swift kick in the nuts being i can't even reach anywhere near my i7 3930k clock of 5.1ghz with ivybridge. I told myself that when i got my next cpu which i was aiming towards the i7 4960x (4970x or 4990x if they are not just rumors) I thought to myself if the average high end clock speed of the ivy e wasn't at least a couple hundred mhz higher than my 4.7ghz i was going to hold off til haswell-e. I know i wont be getting an ivy-e that my 400$ loop can't at least match my 4.7ghz and i won't settle for 4.7ghz with temps in the 70s. My sandy when gaming stays in the low 50s and i like that. So i can only hope that ivy-e/haswell-e will have better temps or else i may be stuck on this sandy-e for years to come.(not that it won't hold its own for a few more years.
