GTX 780 3-Way SLI

I currently have 2 EVGA GTX 780s SC (non ACX) for triple monitor gaming 5760x1080

I was thinking about getting a 3rd.

My questions are:

1) Is the performance between two 780's to three 780's worth the additional price? Or does it not scale well with 3. (price / performance)

2) I read that nvidia really improved the SLI micro stuttering for 2 cards. How about 3? Is it going to hurt me getting a 3rd?

3) Is a 1250watt gold power supply enough for 3 GTX 780's (Will overclock)?

Thanks

keep in mind that 2 gpu is the sweetspot and that more trouble start at 3.
as for question 3, 1200W is enough. But i'm not sure it matters anymore ...
This is exactly what I have been seeing / was thinking so thanks for the info. Looks like I will keep my 2 x GTX 780's and OC as much as possible.

Thanks!

( ~about 20+ fps with a 3rd card)
23fps gain in Metro 2033
20fps gain in Medal of Honor
12fps gain in Far Cry 3
16fps gain in Battlefield 3
Zero gain in Hitman
Zero gain in Anno 2070

If you consider those gains to be worth £550 then buy a third 780.

Also, these benchmarks were done with a 3960X, you want to make sure you have a CPU that won't bottleneck 3 780s.

it would be more wise to buy 2 titans over 3 780s, but anyway, 2 780s may hold that resolution for a while at decents fps.. good luck

dude, do you still have/use the rig on your signature ? cool, post some pics of your ultras..

I wanted to say that as well but concidering the investment on the 2 GTX 780 has already been made ... well I know I would hate myself in that position (just like I did when I bought a 680 the day before the 670 was released).

I'm not sure where people get all their information on this topic, but they sure don't get it from first hand experience, and if it does, they have no idea what they are talking about. I have a Tri-SLI GTX 780 setup and experience none of the aforementioned micro-stuttering issues. Scaling is, in my opinion, quite good. Enough to justify another $650? That's your call. I game in BF3, Crysis 3, Metro Last Light, etc at 1920x1080 at 120hz. Anything less than 120fps is unacceptable in my eyes.

While benchmarking, I pull 1100W from the wall, so a quality 1000W is enough. While gaming, I regularly see around 900-950W from the wall.

Loses all credibility.

I have a 750w PSU for two GTX 780s, so I think you will be more than fine with 1250w for a three way SLI

There's a big difference between 2 670 FTWs and 3 780s

maybe you shouldn't be on this forum if you don't know that.

I wouldn't waste my money on a third 670 FTW- not a good investment now, what with the 7** series being out an all.

90% of games I play I don't dip below 120 FPS and if I do...... I don't care, I'm always above at least 60 FPS in games so I'm always benefiting from a 120Hz monitor.

Throw another 2 monitors in, then your 3rd 780 will actually have something to do other then sit in your case creating heat and noise and collecting dust.

Im using 3way SLI with the GTX 780 Factory Overclocked by Gigabyte (3Fans each).
My configuration: i7 3970x oc to 4.8 Ghz cooled with Corsair H100i
16GB Corsair Vengeance 2400 Mhz
480 GB Corsair Force GS
Asus Rampage 4 Extreme

My Problem: the Top Card reaches a Temperature of 92c
The Middle one at 85c
and the bottom one at 78c.

I think these temperatures are too high! Dont really know what the solution is. Note that these temps even arise when my case is open at one side.
If i would close the case, the temp would go up and stream through the radiators of my CPU Cooler, what results in bad cooling for my CPU. I dont even dare to
close the case. TO avoid this temp Hell i would need to install an Airplane turbine, where the noise would be so loud that gaming doesnt make fun anymore!
Thats not why i spent so much money and work to make this machine work.

The FPS are amazing reaching 230 FPS with Benchmark apps.
I used to have 2x GTX 690 stock (Asus) and didnt even reach half of 3way GTX 780 results.

My question: what could be the reason for overheating? Is there a solution?
I have a 2 year old daughter and cant keep the case open, can only play at night when she is sleeping....

Please let me know if there is a solution....

P.S. I didn't over clock with software at all since this would increase temps even more...

Thanks

I have 2x MSI GTX 780 reference cards and 1x MSI GTX 780 Gaming OC in 3-way SLI and I was also hitting the mid 85*c with the middle and top cards, however I mounted a Scythe Ultra Kaze 120x38 on my side panel. This fan has high static pressure which is great for 3 way SLi air cooled cards. Now the middle and top cards hit 80*c max and the GPU Boost is now better than ever. The lower MSI GTX 780 Gaming card with the TwinFrozr IV cooler now sits around 74*c instead of 78*c.
