3770k for 230euro?

Hello everyone,

so I want to upgrade my 3570k to a 3770k and I found one secondhand for 230 euro. This for the purpose of folding at home. Would this be a fair price to pay? Or will prices go down now that Haswell is here? And should I buy it before I got rid of my 3570k or will I have no problem selling it? And what if I buy it, is it okay for a cpu to be posted naked in a padded enveloppe?

Thanks guys (and girls).

The performance benefits from going to an i7 are NOT worth 230 Euros. If you are dead set on upgrading, 230 Euros is a reasonable price for a 3770K, prices won't go down (here in England, a 2700K still costs about as much as a 3/4770K). I wouldn't recommend shipping it bare, use the little plastic thing the CPU came in (if you have it), and that should be alright in a padded envelope.

I forgot to mention that it was because of folding at home, which warrants the upgrade price for me wink.gif And I will sell of my 3570k, looking to get around 170 euro for it so that brings the upgrade price to only 60 euro, which is fine. Okay if the deal goes on I'll ask the seller to do that. Thanks!

230€ seems like a good deal although I would like to know a little bit more about was the cpu went through before buying it.

Hmm, I probably won't pick it up so I can't see it in action. What can I do to make sure the cpu is legit? What could be wrong with it anyway? It either works or doesn't no?

in theory ... but had it been used hardcore overclocked with no proper cooling it might have a shorter lifespan that's all. You just have to get in touch with the owner, see what he did with it that's all.
And yeah, if it works it's probably legit.

The guy doesn't even know how to overclock it seems. He states to have pushed the oc button on his msi motherboard but that's it. Too bad, I wanted to know if this chip was any good for ocíng. Gonna have to find out myself I guess. Now only to find a buyer for my 3570k, what would be a good price for it? Only 1.75 months old.

Yes for the price hes selling the beast you'll find out yourself ! As for yours well... Retail is about 200 so depending on how far it overclocks lets say between 130 and 150 ... That's the price I d be selling mine anyways. Good luck with that smile.gif

I have set the price for my 3570k at 175euro and I have a potential buyer at 170 euro which sounds good. It's a bad overclocker, that's one of the reasons I want to get rid of it. Can't hit 4.4 ghz at 1.25V. So not viable for folding 24/7. I suddenly have found another 3770k for 230 euro, but once again this guy knows nothing bout overclocking so it'll be luck of the draw. Or should I purchase them both, check which one is best. And sell off the worst? Would I be able to sell it again for 240 euro even?

I work on the principle that anyone selling a 'K' or 'Extreme Edition' chip who claims that it's not been overclocked means there's probably a good chance it's a poor overclocker and they know that quite well. It's amazing how many 'non-overclocked' CPUs like this are for sale on eBay.
