The thing is that this thing is only better than a normal workstation in the size department.... Otherwise a proper 2p workstation with a bunch of expansion slots is clearly superior.

As I said previously, I hope this is just one model to steal the press and hype thunder and that they'll introduce a normal tower as well. One that's actually properly expandable and can be crammed with more CPU power. Because lets face it, looks are the last thing a proper professional cares about in a workstation if he really actually uses it to its fullest.

I'd 100% for this design if it was just for a random more powerful apple desktop but for a workstation lineup? No....

So has anyone else noticed this will be awful for large-scale offices? Let's pretend you like to link up a bunch of desktops together - maybe you even stack them!
Nope. Won't work. It's round, so it won't fit well side-by-side, and the fan is on top, so no stacking...

The case really, really didn't need to be "re-invented". Square has been the standard forever for a reason.

Am I the only one who hates the design? Just looks like a glossy garbage can to me.

you forgot the thunderbolt ports
Really, it's as expandable as any other mac these days.

CPU: Standard LGA2011
Ram: Standard DDR3 ECC DIMMs
Video cards: I'm sure they're a new interface, but might be MXM if we're lucky. Might be the only part you're stuck with.
SSD: Proprietary, but third-parties are already making SSD's in the interface. Even the new Air beats all SATA SSDs in read rates.

Regardless, I'm sure Apple will stick with this platfrom for a few years (as long as we have LGA2011 and c602)

Soild specs and quite a radical design....but I just think IGN's comments on the same article are just too funny not to share.

http://oyster.ignimgs.com/wordpress/stg.ign.com/2013/06/macpro_01-610x960.jpg

"Looks like a nice trash can!!!"

"Great now Apple fans have a way to not only metaphorically dump their money in, but also physically."

"I love Apple, but this indeed does look like a dustbin."

"WOOO 3000 DOLLAR SODA CAN HOLDER!"

"Mac pro now not only a computer but also a fleshlight!"

"Now Appleboys can literally make love to their beloved product"

Welcome back..

When apple was Power/OF there was little third party support and they were just as expensive. Then the Intel/EFI hit and things got easier now it's coming full circle.
