I think there's a misunderstanding here between Assembled in, and Manufactured in...

There's a plethora of cars, devices, furniture, etc. you name it, where the parts are shipped to the US, and workers assemble them into the car, piece of furniture, etc. that you then buy at the store/online.

no, the some case bits are actually machined on US soil. I'm not saying the whole computer is made here, but there is an aspect of it that is made in the US. That's more than what can be said of 95% of computers built by OCNers.

look at the mac pro site, and select the second to last bullet point.

That would look right at home on a Death Star.
Let me start saying it looks amazing. Without cables ofc...
I would certainly prefer copying Silverstone a bit (more) or their G4 cube and puting in on a 2-3in "podium"/base, allowing for at least some of the cables to exit the bottom of the unit. (ala G4 cube)
Power connector, a few thunderbolt ports that off the bat will be used for displays etc.

The ports on the back ruin half the effect.

Also, I would certainly prefer it to be 2P over 2x GPU...
What on earth will they accelerate?
Adobe made the switch to OpenCL, yes, and there modern GCN AMD cards simply mop the floor with nVidia competitors. But 2x cards? Does even Adobe Mercury engine and the such use more than the primary card? Think not - maybe I am wrong.
At any rate, very few things could benefit from more than 12C/24T, but even less would by a 2nd GPU atm.
The cards would be some next gen AMD offering. Don't look like current mobile counterparts, but I doubt those will be running @ full blast and 250-300W - I don't think they could cool it down easily.

I definately know that most 3D apps etc don't.

Lol @ people saying that nobody buys $5K computers. Guess they've never been in OCN tongue.gif
Just a hint, see how much workstations from Dell, Lenovo, HP or BOXX (if you want to spice it up) go for, and then judge. 5 figures are common.

It is also a fact tho that this Mac Pro is nothing special other than the size. By the time it launches, 2P IB-E Wintel offerings will smoke it - probably for the same or less money, just like it was the case with the previous mac pro.

assembled in the usa != made in the usa

also, to machine the single piece of metal casing is hardly an amazing feat, BUT IT'S MADE IN THE US.

this is gonna be one hot trash can

i wish apple would mac a consumer product like this. i really can't understand why anyone would opt for an all-in-one over laptop+monitor, if they don't mind going the unupgradeable route and want something that takes up little space
post #240 of 426
At least made in the USA is a step forward if it's just final assembly. Better than nothing and a step in the right direction..
