PS3 is the best example of this, lots of developers have complained about how much more work it is to develop on such a different (and inferior) platform.

This also leads to bad ports, so no good comes from these limitations. They seriously limit the technology we can see in games, from smaller things like large scale usage of PhysX (or a comparable dynamic physics engine), to larger things like larger scale games with more AI on screen at once. Hell, the limitations have harmed games in very strange ways too: such as Mass Effect 3, you can't holster your guns. The function had to be removed because it took up too much memory on the PS3. It just holds back gaming, certain types of games can't be made on console due to their limitations.

Besides, all of those developers who became good at optimizing games on PS3 aren't at much of an advantage now, since PS4 is totally different architecture once again.

It's true that there are a million different gaming PCs out there, but anyone looking to seriously play games on a PC is using the same architecture for the most part. So it's a good thing that next gen consoles use more familiar architecture.

Not trying to sound like a fanboy or PC purist, but consoles are becoming more and more not worth it since they are developing into standard ITX gaming pc's which has hardware that outdates quickly.

The new Steam OS will be the start of a new generation of gaming consoles/ PC's and with all the new hardware coming out, especially from AMD, people wanting to convert to the darkside don't have to take out a mortgage to get a half decent gaming PC.

On a ranting note tongue.gif, one thing I personally hate about consoles, backward compatibility, it has none. I still play age of empires 2 and BF1942 on my pc, and they are 5-10 year old games maybe older.

Ahhh good to get that off my chest smile.gif
