[Reuters] Sony takes on Microsoft, prices new PS4 below Xbox One - Page 5

Another thing to consider is that PS4 isn't really that much cheaper than the Xbox One as the PS Eye is not included which requires another $59 dollars. To me, $459.99 vs $499.99 really doesn't make the difference and what it comes down to is exclusives and ecosystem. I'm a PS4 fan but I don't think anyone can deny that Xbox Live is a much better service than Playstation Plus. With everyone having the new Kinnect, it also raises the experience that everyone, including the developers, is going to expect from the system. To me, its well worth that $40 dollar difference, especially when the hardware is essentially the same, down to the CPU, RAM and storage.

EDIT:

As for the other issues?

Always On/Connected: Seriously who on OCN really cares about the fact that their console is always connected to the internet? I really don't get it. For the 99% who have internet at least once every 24 hours, it's a good way to keep stuff updated and preloaded without having to wait.

Kinect Spying: You could make the same argument about the PS Eye. Highly unlikely, to the point its not an issue.

Used Games: Yes, that's possibility the only real argument users should moan about when it comes to the PS4 or Xbox. HOWEVER, we STILL have no clarification as to how it works. They just said publishers will decide how to implement it. Meaning, when EA charges you an extra fee to play used games, hate EA more than Microsoft. I bet you we will have some games that can't be replayed and some games that can.

Exclusives: At E3, the Xbox exclusives and titles seemed more impressive. There wasn't anything that I HAD, save for Killzone to have on the PS4 side while Xbox had Forza, Halo, and Titanfall to name a few. Historically, Sony has more exclusives but their launch lineup Xbox looks like they'll have more.

Now with all those good points going for the Xbox, I do have a huge issue with Microsoft and the direction they're taking the box. Sony clearly learned its mistake with the PS3 and whether or not they're implementing the changes correctly, at least it is apparent that they're more connected to the players than the Microsoft Executives. Sony is telling us more of what we want to hear while MS seems to going on a tangent and telling us what we should want. Their whole handling the previous press conference and this E3 has been a train wreck. What could have been solved with a straight up 10 min down to earth chat about the benefits of always on, always connected, and how used games will work, they completely left it untouched. Bad Microsoft. They really ruined their E3 presentation because they just ignored the Elephant in the room.

IMO, that is the only reason why I'm hesitant in picking up a Xbox. Their direction as a company has me worried.

Is it true that you cannot use the Xbox One without the Kinect? If that is true i will not get to play the new Halo.

True, I forgot about that. It wasn't the best Blu-Ray player out there, Sony had standalone units for slightly less that performed slightly better from what I recall reading back then, but as an all-round solution, the PS3 was a great device and the Blu-Ray player very good for all but those that want the absolute best.

Having said that, both will now have a Blue-Ray player, with Sony having a 7 year experience advantage, and, or course, when it comes to other Multimedia, Sony owns film studios, whatever the Xbox One offers in that regard, Sony not only has the hardware but also the means to compete.

I could give a damn about MS spying on me...though I really don't believe they would. Not visually at least. I can see the mic making note of keywords used to tailor advertisements...which I don't see as being that bad. IF I am FORCED to see advertisements I might as well see something I am interested in...might even help me find something I need or want.

However, as it is the Kinect is going to be a video camera that is on a device with a IP address. That makes it a target...and with the way a console works it will be known 100% how it connects to the rest of the Xbox One software and hardware wise. There are probably crackers that could hack these things in their sleep. I don't think this is going to end well for any one.

As for some of the games

For Xbox One so far we have this:
RYSE
Quantum Break
Titanfall (Will be on PC as well, when we don't know)
Crimson Dragon
Forza 5
Halo 5
Project Spark (will be on windows 8's metro side as well so if you don't like windows 8 then sucks for you)
Dead Rising 3 (we have no idea if this is really coming to the pc, and probably not right away if it does)
Overdrive
Killer Instinct
A few games with no name, and more to come

PS4 so far we have this:
DriveClub
Final Fantasty XV (what is replacing FF 13 verses) And might end up becoming multi plat later in life like FF 13 did. (but i am a huge FF fan as well)
Killzone: Shadow Fall (I'm not the biggest fan, but some like it)
War Thunder (also on PC)
Planetside 2 (also coming to pc)
Kingdom Hearts 3 (the real reason to get this console)
Gran Turismo 6
Infamous Second Son
Knack
Dark Sorcerer (IDK game play yet though)

Crummy launch lineup doesn't sell games, look at the vita.

Better hardware doesn't sell more ether

Xbox has better software and online system going for it. More media options, simply a quick and impressive multitasking machine.
No longer needs those archaic discs in the console to play them (we need to get rid of them at some point, why not start the transition now).
Why don't you think about things people can use the Kinect for, just because you don't want it doesn't mean people don't. Most normal people would love the Kinect, I see people with them all the time on the 360. What has just as much ability to spy on you. It is a great tool it add automation to a console.

Xbox One is no less of a game console then a 360, it is improved in every way. No need to type in codes or any of that. Pop your disc in and play, and once installed no need to use disc until you sell it.
This is not steam, you not entering a long serial key.

you mean i can watch tv on my tv with xbox. yeah revolutionary. i agree that the games matter, but i don't think most gamers are going to be ecstatic about multimedia options, that basically replicate existing functions of your cable box. or being forced to pay for a kinnect, when all they want to do is play fps anyway (referring to friends i know who have xbox360s)

Our actions are always being recorded/monitored. It's a fact of life in the digital age.

Google, Facebook, Steam, Origin, Razer Synapse etc all watch what we do to a certain degree. Smartphones too, CCTV everywhere, governments tapping in to phone calls...

No I am not going to live in a cave and no I am not going to wear a tin foil hat, but I am not going to willingly put a £430 CCTV camera in my house that I have no control over who has access to and for what purposes.

Even if people were naive enough to think Microsoft wouldn't use it for illegitimate purposes what if Microsoft got hacked? like Sony did...

Why don't you think about things people can use Kinect for, just because you don't want it doesn't mean people don't. Most normal people would love the Kinect, I see people with them all the time on the 360. What has just as much ability to spy on you. It is a great tool it add automation to a console.

Xbox One is no less of a game console then a 360, it is improved in every way. No need to type in codes or any of that. Pop your disc in and play.
This is not steam, you not entering a long serial key.

Bah...I wouldn't be surprised to see the number Xbox Ones sold be very close to the number of copies of Halo 5 sold...that game alone will make the console a huge success. I've never really seen the point...I've payed a couple of the Halos. It was fun, but I think there are a lot better shooters out there.

I just hope Sony doesn't rely too much on Final Fantasy...that series is probably more a deterrent now days. And Kingdom Hearts 3 should have been on the PS3...I doubt many of the kids these days will be excited for a sequel of a PS2 game. They need to take Kill Zone and run with it...bah...but then the name "KILL"Zone will turn off parents. At this rate the PS4 is probably going to tank. Gran Turismo 6 might save it...don't rely on PlanetSide2...SOE will find some way to kill the game.
