I sold the 7990. I got $725 with the block out of it, so I was happy. I never used the fan....ever. I removed it the day I got it. So I never heard it. Although I am selling that heatsink (I don't know if anyone would actually buy a heatsink, but who knows).
I overclocked the HOF. Stock numbers with boost are 1059 and 1502 MHz for GPU and Memory respectively. I got the clocks to 1219 MHz and 1629 MHz stable. I want to push it higher, but I have the volts maxed out to 1.21. The EVGA overclocking program does not have a feature to go higher than that. Anyone have any idea on how I could get the voltage up higher to afford a better OC? Temps aren't bad at about 60c, but an EK representative confirmed to me via email that the block, which was DUE to be released at the end of October, will be ready in 3 weeks. So beginning of December. I have a few other things listed on eBay, and once those sell, I am going to buy another HOF. I am hoping that, with overclocking, they will be worth it, since they are only about $50 less than the 290x. Monetarily, I don't know if it was the smart choice, but I had always used AMD and I wanted to try Nvidia. I have to say that overclocking with Nvidia is more of a pain. Oh well.
I am also re-doing the colors in the case. I know I know...I just did it. Since the video card PCB is white and the block will be white, I am matching some colors. I don't think I will get the water block back plate since the PCB is really pretty. I am going to re-do the colors as a combination of lime green, grey, white, and some black here and there. Ordered from MDPC today. With the new video card, I also will order a new PSU, likely something around 600w. Since my case can handle dual PSUs, to save on buying a $300 PSU to get enough power, I am buying a small one to power the CPU, mobo, pump, and extras. The 1050w PSU I have now will be exclusive for the GPUs and should help with stability. That also means that I will be removing the 480mm radiator on the bottom and I will replace it with a 240mm radiator. If temps rise too much with SLI over clocked, I can always install ANOTHER 240mm at the front of the case to get me back to my 480mm I lost. I was planning on getting a 60mm thick 240mm and doing a push pull. So this should give me the performance I need to offset the high heat that overvolted cards will produce.
SOMETIME in the next few months, I am replacing the motherboard, RAM, and CPU. I am going to a 2011 socket with the 4930k. The RAM I am only replacing because it won't match. I found some Mushkin Redline in Black for $170 for a 4x4GB kit @ 2133 MHz. I will get 2 of those, since I am also getting an Asus X79 Deluxe motherboard. The gold is ugly as hell, BUT only the heatsinks are gold, which can be removed. I will get those power coated. Not sure what color yet. Don't know if I want to make it white, to brighten up the motherboard (the rest is black and grey), or lime green to make it pop. Thoughts?
On an unrelated note...I really like that new Phanteks Enthoo case. Anyone else think that setup with the PSU separated by a tiered floor looks great?
