[ArsTechnica] PS4 owners will need PlayStation Plus subscription for online multiplayer - Page 2

I've owned plus for over a year/been subscribed for over a year. The service is great and offers alot more than XBOX LIVE did.

Not too mention the fact that the system will automatically power on and update software/games whenever an update comes out or whenever you schedule it to check for updates.

Its not merely paying 50 bucks a year just to be able to play online.

As mentioned above PS+ is a great value and if you pay yearly it only comes out to 4$ a month. So not a bad investment considering you get discounts on games and at times free games.

You and I were taught different math, though admittedly I don't know how much you actually save on game purchases. Every Playstation game I've ever purchased was a physical disk.

If this means they provide a better online service, then I'm all for it.
Somehow a lot of people missed this in the conference. During and for hours afterwards, people were swearing up and down that you could play online without it, just as you always have. They did sneak it in there, but it was pretty obvious, I thought.

All said, it doesn't bother me. $50 a year is piddly. People had a legit complaint when Microsoft were the only ones doing it, but complaining about Sony following suit isn't warranted. Furthermore, it's only required for online multiplayer, whereas Microsoft ransoms a lot more (Netflix and HBO GO for example, things that have their own fees.)

Why are they doing the XBOX thing? Just keep it free or God sake!

From an Xbox live member this is NO BIG DEAL... Especially considering the benefits of the PS4 which highly outweigh the XBox1 right now. And they give away free games to Plus members (Microsoft Xbox is finally doing this after 7 years...)

For those with panties twisted in a bunch why not play those games (for console exclusive... tough luck) on PC where it is still FREE to play online, at the cost of paying double if not triple the consoles price to maximize your experience. tongue.gifthumb.gif

IF that price was only for playing online...it would be a FAIL

but PS+ is an epic value of like 30 games free per year

sorry Xbox fans, this is not a con

Complain all you like, the pros of the PS4 outweight the cons.

Really there's only two reasons to even consider a Xbox One over a PS4. Exclusives and control pad preference. Everything else the PS4 has in the bag at this point.

I've never been a Playstation owner before, just Xbox, and I always thought the free multiplayer on PSN was a way better value then Xbox live. Honestly though....paying under $5 a month doesn't bother me in the least! I'm really excited for the PS4 and can't wait to pick one up! Microsoft as definitely lost a customer this time around. Maybe if they changed there subscription model and used games policy they could of swayed me....

A Starbucks a month and people complain. rolleyes.gif If you can't scrape together 13 cents a day what are you doing buying $400 consoles in the first place?
