[ArsTechnica] PS4 owners will need PlayStation Plus subscription for online multiplayer - Page 8

with all this subscription crap, i've really lost all interest in console gaming. so what if i miss out on console exclusives? console gaming these days comes down to short, cinematic (ie unrealistic), superficial games with little replay value. it's like paying for an overpriced, really long movie most of the time.

the only console series i care about, the Souls series, is coming to pc anyway. and i get pretty much endless entertainment from cheap or free pc games that actually have depth, like LOL and CS:GO.

i bet it wouldn't be too hard to build a decent 1080p gaming pc for less than $500 (ie the cost of consoles) at this point, or by the time they are released

Even then that's still quite a bit more than a PS4. That price point and quite a few of the games are actually making the PS4 very appealing to me. Only downside is there's no Forza on PS4 frown.gif

If you were referring to XBOX Live, I am with you a hundred percent. If you refer to now paying for PSN to be able to play online, it depends whether or not
the network will actually be updated.

I don't mind paying for online play on the console, especially not if you see what benefits you receive with a PSN+ membership, I just hope
the network will be unified as it is with XBL. Too many a times I just couldn't figure out how to invite people to my game as every game
had a different way of doing so. Hopefully those days are over with PS4.

Big deal its still cheaper than Xbone. Hopefully by charging people Sony will use that money to better the online service.

As a long terms PS+ subscriber I think they should have left multiplier free but not allow used games as what Microsoft is doing..otherwise Microsoft is gonna get all the exclusive games. EA is already moving towards Microsoft with more exclusives.

Free online play is what made ditch my Xbox360 and get a PS3 and then finally I saw the value in PS+ and subscribed for 1 year and then extended to 3 years when they had the sale.....but forcing people to buy PS+ to be able to play online is just a stupid move.

And F^%$ used games trade. If you like better games then support the developers...why would gamestop and EB games make 900% profit out of my $60 purchased game and $20 million game development budget that went into making the game? If you not happy with the game you bought then maybe you should have played the demo or watch a couple of reviews before. And if you pre-ordered the game for some bonus gun or skin then sorry to say but you need to rethink your strategies in life....

If writers don't get money from used books, car companies don't get money from used cars, and pretty much everything else in the market is the same way, why would it be any different for videogames?

They weren't, PSN runs on recycled servers...

I keep seeing people say free games, but how are they free if you're paying for them lol. It's all worked into the subscription.

True, but typically the free games are wayyyyyyy past due. I welcome free material, but by the time it's free, you've probably already played the next 2 sequels.

Just for multiplayer though? That I am alright with.

If it's required to use anything online like the Xbox then I will be disappointed.
