Newbee question about GTX 6xx series, and Displayport Adapter

Thread Starter
Hi!!
Im from argentina, so there is NO available Displayport monitors here (if there is one, it´s too expensive).
So, the only way to use DP is using an adapter to DVI...
The best option founded so far is this: http://www.encore-usa.com/us/product/ENCA-DD
Is active or passive?

I know that AMD Radeon need active adapters to use more than 2 monitors... but the NVIDIA GTX6xx series, need active adapters too? or passive adapters can do the job?
I´m planning to use an LG D2342P-PN 3D monitor...

Hi! that's a very hard question! wow nice one! tongue.gif

anyways.. I don't know.. but if I can offer alternatives if you don't succeed?

For monitors usually DUAL-DVI is used for high res.. I nothing about Dual DVI. I use a HDMI 1.4b* it has return audio and ethernet. but what is really has is extra bandwidth. I use it with my 42" TV in 1440 to 1800p works fine for me.

just some suggestions there, know it wasn't what you were looking for but perhaps it'll help.

I know that DVI it´s better... but it´s possible in the future, to get my hands in 2 more monitors... so i want to be prepeared... specool.gif

The Encore adaptor, apparently is passive, so the answer about the capabilities for the GTX6xx is critical now...confused.gif

I´m asking about the entire series, because now i have an GTX660ti, but in the future, i get a 670, o maybe (with a little luck) a 680 biggrin.gif

I found an offer about this other adapter from dell: DP/N OXT623: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=330-1269

Any idea about active or passive?

are you just curious about displayports? never used them myself. but that adapter was a DVI adapter.. how many monitors do you have? the ti has four outputs 1 hdmi 1 displayport and 2 dvi. two ti's give you double that.. and Nvidia do audio over dvi now..

you might have more joy asking a mod to move this thread to the monitors section. here http://www.overclock.net/f/44/monitors-and-displays
(please don't repost the same question in there)

I think, that probabbly, didn´t explain myself good...

I have ony one card. In the future, will change the actual card, for a better one. Then, i will gona have only one card. So, always have 4 outputs available.

As far as i read, the better outputs for 3D are the DVI (dual link) and Displayport, because they have more bandwith.
In the next week, i´ll buy an LG D2342P-PN 3D monitor, which recomend to use a DVI dual link output.
For the lab, probabbly will buy later (2 or 3 months i think), more of those LCD´s... so in that time, will gona have access to 3x LCD 3D monitors...
So... for that, i must be prepeared!!

Thanks!!

no problem man.

listen if you want a little advice on NV cards.. here is the skinny.. smile.gif

ppl lurv the 660ti.. I have two of these and my cards are just basic reference cards.. but I get 30% better performance than 1 GTX 680 for 4/5ths the price.
asin~ two tis = £400
one 680 = £500
well kinda when I was buying. but now the prices have came down. those Ti's are dynamite! I want a third.. maybes*.
and I know you want good bandwidth.. but maybes think.. just a suggestion for the price of three HDMI cables (1.4b only.. not 1.4a) you could give yourself an easy life?

*long story.
