Yea, it will definitely be AM3 and for chipset I'd imagine 990FX

It's too early to tell going off of the released specs. I'm not holding my breathe. One thing can be certain though, you WILL need an aftermarket cooler.

I am extremely excited about this. It isn't just a better binned Piledriver. Look at what happened with Trinity and Richland overclocking. Both are "Piledriver" cores but the folks at XS are getting insane clocks out of their 6800ks.

http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2823879

That was on the CLC that comes with the FX

And there's the infamous flank3r overclocking his 6800k ON AIR.

Compare to Trinity:

These new Piledriver cores = lower vcore, decent clock speed increase.

Also, for you guys claiming this is another TWEAKR version, these high end FX chips are going to OEMs first. So that should tell you a lot about where all of this fits in. My guess is that these things can run stock on AIR just fine, you'll need a CLC to push it much further, and upper 5ghz range benching under a good loop will be possible.

However I do think the $800 price before was just a rumor to make people go "oh, it's only $300 or so, that's not bad!" Instead of "OMG AMD WANTS $300 FOR AN FX LOL~~~"

Also, my guess for price is $299, priced below 4770k.

As for official release, AMD will wait until all those "gaming evolved" games that have been designed to "easily be ported for 8 core APUs in consoles to PCs, thus using 8 cores on PC" become a part of common benchmark suites. BF4, etc, will drown out Skyrim and SC4 and all the other games AMD is bad at, simply because they're going to be old ands, honestly, completely last gen.

AMD will then show off a 5ghz FX, where FX already is close enough to 4770k in multithread that the 25% clockspeed increase will put it well ahead of Intels "mainstream" offerings.

It will definitely be a good time to be an AMD guy, specially considering Haswell just released, disappointed enthusiasts, and the Intel Optimists have to dig to a few remote programs to showcase Haswell's "improvements" on the desktop. There's going to be a lot of anger and denial on enthusiast forums when AMD's pieces fall into place, that's all I have to say.

I'm not an Intel fanboy in any way, shape, or form but I wouldn't spend more than $300 on this CPU although I can understand why some people would. I think it has a chance to do well if it comes in somewhere between $300-350. Realistically it's not worth much more than $300 some folks may even suggest lower but that's my honest appraisal. I'm curious to know how much overclocking headroom is left if any? 5GHz with all 8 cores active? What kind of cooling is required?

If it comes in at $500 or more, forget it... that's Sandy Bridge-E territory

Let me point out something

1If it was a 9590 it would be a 9 core that's common sense
2. More than likely its going to be called the 8450 or something around there.
3. The name 9590 not only not makes sense but and goes every 2 cores for example 4300-6300-8300 and new CPU with more cores would probaly be 10000 or something around that.
4. The price tag of the rumors is crazy and is aimed and performance-value the price tag is fake simple done.

Stupid question, well not stupid, but is there an AM3+ motherboard that currently supports 220W? I think there isn't but I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure they are only going to be available from OEM's. You won't be able to buy one unless you purchase an entire system. So it seems they are for people that don't care to overclock themselves.

It is interesting to note that AMD's press release states "The new AMD FX CPUs will be available from system integrators globally beginning this summer," meaning it's unlikely they're sold as standalone products at launch. This makes sense as the SIs will have to meet strict qualification guidelines in order for the chips to operate at the quoted speed.

I honestly don't know why anyone would get that excited. It's pretty much just an OC'd version of the 8350. Nothing more. Just like the GHZ edition of a 7970. And considering you most likely can't buy them without buying an entire system they seem pretty pointless. Just go buy an 8350 and overclock it.
