A Pentium 4 at 2.8 Ghz does 0.34 on single-thread. Yes, the Jaguar is more efficient, much more so, but being clocked at 1.6 Ghz essentially leaves the consoles with 8 P4s. There has to be serious multi-threading to make up for such weak single-threaded performance.

Even all 8 cores only match up to an i3 3220 here if you do 0.39 * 8 = 3.12

Instruction sets, optimized code and kernel, etc. can get ~60-100%+ performance increases on modern CPUs. The PS4 isn't running Windows, it's running a heavily modified, heavily optimized variant of BSD, so performance is substantially higher. Also, don't forget that 1.84 TFlop GPU helping it via HSA...

1. So will the controller charge when the system is off / on standby?

That was one thing I hated about my PS3, I could never charge my controller or headset if my PS3 wasn't on.

2. Also will my PS3 controller work natively?

Just so I don't RUSH out to buy a second one to player 2 player games?

3. Will I be able to transfer my bought games to my PS4?

Because I bought Crash Bandicoot games from when I was a kid biggrin.gif and could play them on my PS3.

4. Will I have to purchase the year membership (PS+, even though I probably will because of the free games and such) to play MP games?

5. Does anyone know how indie devs can get their game on the PS Store? Will it be as hard as PS3? I'm keen to put my game on the PS4, I love playing it on PC and android but it would be cool to play it on my big tv thumb.gif

Most people seem to forget that the devs code straight to the hardware, their OS isn't as intrusive as Windows is.

The funny thing is people always say how good games today are on PS3 aka The Last of US. that isn't because it's a good console, it's because until recently the devs didn't know how to take use of the Cel processor properly. Now with x86, I will be surprised to see any game on the PS4 or Xbox One to be less in graphics / fps than a mid range pc for a couple of years.

1. Yes
2. No
3. Unknown / Gaikai will provide BC in 2014 for US customers though how it will be done is still in the air
4. You can do 3 month or Yearly and it depends F2P games that are currently announced won't require PS+
5. Contact Sony, it's apparently an easy process.

I was actually thinking about this sort of thing last night and the night before, but with mobile devices.

Take the PS Vita for example. I mean, if you compare the PS Vita's hardware specs to current (and near future) Android phones and tablets and their hardware specs, it's pretty apparent and obvious that the PS Vita just isn't the most powerful mobile device anymore. Don't get me wrong, it's still an incredibly powerful device, what with a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU clocked at between 1 - 1.5GHz and a quad-core SGX543MP4+ GPU with 128MB of dedicated VRAM, but it's certainly not the unrivaled mobile device it used to be. Yet if you look at some of the games on the PS Vita, you'd think they were actual "console-quality" games (Gravity Rush, NFS: Most Wanted, Soul Sacrifice, Killzone: Mercenary, etc.) But then you're also typically paying a lot more for a PS Vita game than an Android game, so I suppose it's natural to think that games on the PS Vita are going to be "better" since you're paying more tongue.gif

That being said though, there are definitely some Android games out there that I would consider "console-quality" that are still incredibly cheap, like Rayman Jungle Run, AVP: Evolution, Super Monkey Ball 2: Sakura Edition, I Love Katamari, The Bard's Tale, Sonic 4: Episode 2, etc.

I would love to be able to own a game like Gravity Rush on Android, but unfortunately there's currently nothing like Gravity Rush on Android... yet tongue.gif

By the way, I use the term "console-quality" loosely. I consider a mobile game to be a "console-quality" game if it runs well, has good controls, looks good, and is just all around fun to play.

I might add more to this soon tongue.gif

OCN is a place for hardware and software but isn't it just about the quality of the games? The current gen there's very little difference between the PS3 and 360 and I expect less of so in the next gen.

It has been completely revamped now. And it was even recently been made completely free of charge.

You can start developing for Vita right now without any kind of paperwork or fees. The only thing that gets forfeited from my understanding is the ability to price the game yourself. Sony does it for you.
Going into the PS4, it will be easier than ever. You can even use Unity to make games for it too, and Sony will lend support. Its going to be magnificent.
