[examiner] Sony calls out microsoft, no drm and no always-online - Page 4

I couldn't be happier regarding Sony right now. They've earned my money and we deserve a great non-BS console. SOLD

Honestly I never buy used and never trade in so the always online is the only think that would bother me and yet again I only play multiplayer games rarely play campaign unless its a amazing game

Used games is not where I'm concerned. Its the rentals. (possibly there will be code that allows a limited rental time without the purchase of the game as "used". But that is yet to be seen.) I have maybe bought 3 used games in the last 4 years. but i have rented multiple times to check out a game that didn't offer a demo. That loss of a safety net, and having to possibly eat $60 for a crap game is unnerving.

My biggest issue with the idea of cloud computing (I love the CONCEPT of it, but) I cant help to think that rate of transfer they can depend on for these game to offload is so dependent on a given ISP connections. Current US average is 6.6mbps. The designers are going to have to work around this sort of average. I think at best, this will be used for background rendering and AI processes. (DRIVATAR... rolleyes.gif ) Which , I'm assuming, most gamers aren't too concerned about 90% of the time.

Dont peg me as a PS fanboy. I have never owned a PS, only a 360 since i got back into gaming. Just expressing concerns I'm seeing.

Yeah this was my first thought as well.

so nothing has really changed.

"Sony has confirmed that the digital rights management of PlayStation 4 software will be up to third-party publishers. Speaking on GTTV, Sony's Jack Tretton stated, "The DRM decision for third-party games will be up to publishers."

This clarification comes one day after Sony's E3 press conference this week, where Tretton stated that the PlayStation 4 "won't pose any new restrictions on the use of PS4 gamers." He continued, "We believe in the model that people embrace today with PlayStation 3.""

Yeah, it's ironic to see everyone swallowing the Sony line, these are same people that that said "Motion control is a gimmick that we don't need" when the Wii was released, and then announced their own motion controller a short time later. Then the Xbox 360 was released and Sony ranted about the release price being obscene for a console, and then a year later released their console at an even higher price.

Then of course there is the whole backwards compatibility issue not to mention Sony "patching" out some of the very things they originally used to promote the PS3 such as the ability to load an alternate OS and/or crunch work units for the grid.

Which is exactly how the PS3 and XBOX 360 work now, nothing has changed for the PS4.

The very fact they have infrastructure in place for this kind of thing is bad. Plus always online check in every 24 hours... There no way to spin this in MS' favor.

Ziiing!

Well I'm not really in the market for a console, but if I were to get a next-gen console in the future, PS4 is it.

X1 will still be where the competitive FPS gamers/games are so that's what I'm going with. Same with all my friends.

The players on PS3 are laughably bad compared the the 360.

HAHAHA, so sorry but everyone on XBL is like 10.

On a serious note, I hope MS chokes on X1 and croaks. I have been dealing with their crappy products since before there was a "start menu" to argue about.

This is how M$ got pwned during the first round of console wars between these two. Microsoft wanted to own all the games released on the original xbox, while Sony was all for third party developers releasing games on its console. Microsoft tried to assert ridiculous control over every facet of everything and lost to the PS2 horribly.
Yes, the used game facet is up to the publisher on both consoles.
Now, if Sony just implements better social aspects to it's system, they will destroy the xbox. I fully believe that the Kinect requirement for the xbone is going to be the downfall of their system. Too many people see right through their audacious marketing ploy that they will be using the Kinect for. Don't think for ONE SECOND that they won't be using the Kinect to see what you're doing, and with who. Whether or not they release that information to a third party, or just use it for DRM, or use it for free market research, it doesn't matter. They're not fooling most of us.
