Additional details about the PlayStation 4 have begun to emerge following last night's announcements. In addition to be region-free, we've now learned that that the system's 500GB hard drive can be removed and upgraded. Sony Worldwide Studio Head, Shuhei Yoshida, confirmed the news via Twitter early this morning. The move gives the PS4 yet another advantage over the Xbox One, which makes the hard drive inaccessible to consumers

And the Xbox One has both cloud storage and the ability to use external hard drives. Neither are confirmed for the PS4...

I am sure the PS4 will allow external hard drives (PS3 allowed them with no issues) and also if you are more of an offline person, you rather want your saved games on locally as well as your media so cloud storage isn't for most people right now.

Also, internal hard drives are cheaper than externals so...

Also, if your Internal HDD is broke in the X1, you are outta luck post warranty because I am sure some of the key OS bits are on that HDD and you still need to be have an internal HDD to work the console.

Actually read what's out and Sony isn't really the white knight people think they are. They're just exponentially better at the PR game.

cloud storage is a viable option for the Xbox One since that device is pretty much always connected.

Well the thing is, PS4 doesnt' have a USB port on the side or even the back, so plugging in an external HDD to the front ports is gonna look rather..... lame. I'll take upgrading the internal HDD anyday.

I would absolutely not recommend using either with a PS4. Velociraptor sure, but without being able to disable hard drive management tools SSDs are going to get trashed by the PS4.

Hybrids maybe but SSD's are not worth it due to write wear.

We will see. In terms of the news on fees you have to pay for used games to get online MP is explicitly stated to be the decision of the developers from Sony while Microsoft is forcing the agenda from their side to all developers to comply. That is the difference.

Right and the whole point being forced connected is stupid, hence cloud storage for the general discussion is often mooted. Sure it works with the X1 cause you have to be online to play the X1.
