It'll probably stream from the console(like Gaiki or Onlive) or from a server were the game is being hosted. All the owner has to do is given his 10 friends/family permission to play their games and the game itself can be hosted elsewhere.

Just like i have been saying since the console was announced...they'll have this kind of DRM too. just leave it up to third party publishers to use or not use it...so basically only SONY made games won't use it.

One of the first things they announced in the original reveal was that games could both pre-load and partial install to be playable faster...

If that was the case, every game can be pirated.
Not quite. You set the people you can share with and it probably won't be quick or easy to change them.
Quote:
Here is what I heard about the policy:
You heard? The information is readily available, why rely on hearsay?
Quote:
1. You can "sell gift" the game to a friend (and only one friend) who has been in your friend's list for over 30 days.
2. The game can only be "re-sold gifted" it once.
Close enough, not worth elaborating. Sure, you can involve money, but the money is not through Microsoft.
Quote:
3. If you want to "sell" it instead, you can't just hop on eBay and sell it. Instead, you can only trade-in it to certain places (probably GameStop) and sell it at cheapo prices.
"Participating retailers". Yes, it won't be as easy to avoid money going to developers.
Quote:
4. The thing you are talking about ("lending") is considered a "family and acquaintances" thing. I am sure there is a catch on this short of you "lending" the game to anyone you see fit for free without a trade-off. I am damn sure the trade-off is that you still need to give out a link to your XBox Live account doing so. Also, if your so called "friend" decided to do a hack or something that subjects to a ban on XBox Live on your "lent" copy of the game tied to your account in some way, you will be banned as well.

Wait. Your objection to this is if you give games to hackers that ruin gaming for other people, your game might be ruined too?!?! This is an objection? It's an excellent way of dealing with toxic players imo. Peer pressure is far more effective than anything authority figures can do. However, such a linked punishment is purely speculation, and you're objecting on the grounds of something you made up to justify objection. I hope you can see the absurdity of this...
Quote:
So yeah sure that is a great feature, but I won't even give out an association of MY XBox Live account to the game I am "lending" with that method to anyone outside of family. Period.
Probably a good policy.
Quote:
So no, it is not the same. I rather not get my XBox Live account associated to a friend over getting a physical disk scratched.
Find more trustworthy friends?
Quote:
Also I am sure with the PS4 you can backup your games from disk to drive too. That tech shouldn't be omitted by any console going forward anymore.
That's not the difference. The difference is backing up to the cloud and never again needing the disc past the initial install, if that. It's kind of one of the biggest features of Steam... Both consoles use game installs, but with the PS4 your only backup is the disc itself.

-you don't need to feel like you're done with the game before you borrow your game, because you technically always have it, even when your friends do.
-you don't need your disc back full stop
-you can actively share your game with people on the other side of the world.
-you can download your game from the cloud if your disc ever breaks

So, the actual game sharing facilities between the two systems is actually superior on XBO in terms of convenience.

I will believe this when I see it...this system will get abused so bad. If they do launch with it I give a month before it is shut down. People will just get in a group of ten people, split the cost of a game, and each take a log on. It will make the profit loss of used game sales look like nothing in comparison since I doubt many used game copies were bought and sold ten times.

There has got to be a catch...in fact, there was suspicion of the wording of the statement. It could of meant that only one of the ten users could access the game library at a time...even if they wanted to play different games. Even if that isn't true...the people at Microsoft are not complete idiots. There must be some sort of catch.

The catch is they have to be listed as family. It's going to mean more than just being on your friends list. How much more remains to be seen.

I don't know if that would stop much...probably would just need all of the accounts to be registered to one address.

The REAL method to lend a game to a friend will only work once per game. Which is rather locked down. I just can't see them just opening this up willy nilly to share your game with any nine people you can find when they have that other sharing policy in place.

FTFY

Remember, giving the game moves it to their game library, meaning it's their family group that shares it instead of yours.

Which ever Console cats hacked first is the Console that will win the war. A lot of people insisted of buying 360 even after failing more then one time from RROD because you could play backups. I know console sales matter but i have a felling more game hours where put on Xbox then PS3.

That's not the difference. The difference is backing up to the cloud and never again needing the disc past the initial install, if that. It's kind of one of the biggest features of Steam... Both consoles use game installs, but with the PS4 your only backup is the disc itself.

Going down the list:

1. Don't care. SC2 tried that it worked like crap for me. I rather wait for a complete install before trying. Again, the PC has been the forefront of that and it just doesn't quite work. If you want to do it fine, but I rather patiently wait and play with stability. Moot point.

2. Again you can set the share, but I am sure there are restrictions to the parameters of how you can share. I am also damn sure that if you want your friends to play multiplayer (unless you want to share your account or something), then they will still need a legitimate copy and developers will make sure that the person that will pay for the game will get everything. The digital method has always a roadblock that prevents it from ever being used properly short of sharing.

3. I forgot to omit that so ignoring this.

4. Again this is a big issue because "reselling" (cause who re-gifts a used game for the most part) is a big industry between players (which PC players no longer have the power to do since 2002).

5. Again, people use eBay to resell or some other site that doesn't have a middleman that rips off trade-in values. So it is a big ripoff to people who want to play a game and resell it for another without losing too much money.

6. No absurdity. There is high possibility that your XBL account can be used a liability and responsibility of what you do with sharing. Microsoft does that to all their other stuff with audits and stringent activations on VLK keys. The thing is your XBL account will be highly monitored and influenced on what you do. While on the Sony lot, nothing is tied to the game. The disk is all its own entity with no risks.

7. Again it might good for you, but I would never let my account be used a collateral. I won't even let my best friends or family use it either.

8. Of course but the risk of losing a disk in all probable chance is safer than risking stuff related to my account.

9. To be honest, I never saw Steam Cloud too effective for me. All it does it keeps Saved Games for me and I can even local save them on my HDD, causing me to overwrite multiple saves in various games. It is a hindrance to me. I rather have full control over what saves I have stored and that is that and only use the Cloud if I really need to move to another console (but the chances of that are slim on my part).

Actually my Steam Cloud keeps crashing a lot too... Hmmmm...
