Just like when you buy a car it drops thousands the second you drive it off the floor. If you don't drive the car the whole time you have it and try to sell it 10 years after buying it guess what, you won't get the sticker price for it. Why the hell do people think games should be different? Pure greed, stupidy, and disconnect from the real world. I hope the game market crashes hard so they're brought back to reality.
What about the used games at gamestop that show up before the end of the week after someone who powered through the game the night it came out and Gamestop is charging $45 for and sniping sales that would have been new games? I'm not talking about used games that are no longer even on the new shelf.

Well yes. But you and I both know the vast majority of used games sales occur within 1-4 months of the game's launch, not years afterwards.

There is no reason, like the PS4, that internet can't be an option that we have and use, and for the few people or times when we don't have or don't want to use the internet we should be able to do that.

I just don't understand people who are against having more options when it comes to how you use equipment you own.

The way both consoles actually handle games in general is different, therefore having different approaches to DRM.

PS4 disc based games allow you to play games from the disc.

XBO disc based games allow you to install from the disc/download from the cloud and never require that disc ever again. You can launch and/or switch to any of your games whether you bought it as a hard copy or not without leaving your seat to open/find a DVD case and switch your games. You can launch any game you own, from anywhere (in or outside your house), with any platform (on the xbo itself or a phone/tablet/pc etc via smartglass)

If you sell your PS4 disc, you sold your game.

If you sell your XBO disc, you sold the disc, not your game, because according to your xbo, the game is still installed and ready to play.

Due to these differences, MS can't actually do things the same way as Sony, lest people buy games, then sell the disc immediately after installing, but still have their games......it couldn't work.

Just saying, I don't think its as simple as saying "Why can't MS just do it like Sony?".

Their application is different, therefore so are the implications.

There are millions and millions who do not have access to internet... The ppl on this forum are a fraction of the gamers around the world.

My wife is from Vietnam and her house just got access to 56k last month... And Vietnam is not the most poor country out there.

Cause a country is poor does not mean they do not have gaming systems.. plenty of people in Vietnam owned 360s and Ps3s last i was there in 2009

The industry has wanted to do it for a long time (see: online passes). M$ and Sony were both set to do it, Sony got scared and M$ is buying favor from publishers by staying the course. I do think they're going to try to hot patch in authentication via disc-in-tray, but I have no way to confirm this. And like I said, such a patch is a short term solution at best.

Console piracy is rampant in Asia, might not be the best example. As I said, the no-internet market isn't that profitable and all the console makers exist in capitalist systems.

The fact that you need internet connection alone is a dead end for me. I don't care if I can share with people, spam them with some random social feature. I do have a good internet, but there is one thing that we can't do anything:

IF THERE IS NO SERVERS, IT'S AN USELESS BRICK.

I still play on my SNES and N64 every week, tell me what will happen when I will want to play some good old games on my 6 years-old xbone that M$ will have shut down the servers? I highly doubt hey will give out a patch to remove the offline time limit and even if they do, what will happen to all these games that will use the cloud for "calculations"?

On PC, we can still play those games made back on DOS. Want to have a nostalgia blast with Quake 2? Install it and play, that's it. Nowadays everything is made with a predetermined life-cycle stamped on it: DRM, cloud, web-based menu, parts of engine hidden on a server, etc...

Things like this are leaving a freaking endless hole in gaming history, there is no more making game with passion, just milking money out of everything and leaving it dead on the ground.

Or the fact that 119 million people in the US, out of our ~340 million, do not have broadband internet. This is according to the latest FCC Broadband reports. 19 million of those in that 100 million simply do not have any access at all to it. Also of note, in these numbers, the FCC is now counting Satellite Internet as fixed broadband, which is misleading for this purpose as you simply can't game on it, or even patch and download DLC due to latency and usage limits!

You can see this translate into the number of Xbox units SOLD versus the number of Gold members, 77 million to 36 million subscribed.

Now toss in the number of people globally that don't have access to internet connections, and you are at a whole new level.

Wonderfully put, sir!

The fact that I can switch between games via the software and not physically changing a disc is awesome to me. There are several things on the XBONE that make it a clear choice for me over the PS4 but I'm also not paranoid about Microsoft taking pictures of me in my underwear with the Kinect, I don't care to be connected 24/7 because it's amazing that the game can update while I'm asleep or at work so it's read to go when I'm ready to play, not having to change inputs to switch to cable while changing the channel with my voice alone is all fantastic IMO, and multitasking during a game of Search and Destroy for instance so I have something other to do when I get killed aside from watching my team lose the game thumb.gif. Too many people are too pessimistic about technology/life when it's designed to make your life easier. Oh well..they will sell millions and I'll enjoy every bit the console has to offer.
