If Amd latest and Intel latest clock for clock on the same planet performance wise and the Amd is 100$ cheaper ill buy it..

There isn't maximus iv extreme/formula for 3930k

it is rampage iv extreme/formula (x79)

i think it is good to get a rampage iv formula, since it has decent audio integrated into the board

you also can get z77/z87 with plx chip but adds latency

I think that this is the review about cpu selections for multi-gpu setups (http://www.anandtech.com/show/6934/choosing-a-gaming-cpu-single-multigpu-at-1440p). Although the test setup is for 1440p, this review should give you some perspectives for cpu selection. The conclusion of the review is that the performance of multi-gpu setup is mostly similar between 3770k and 3930K. Since 3770K is cheaper, they recommend 3770K over 3930K. 4770K is not a part of consideration in this review. However I am pretty sure that if you can get a golden 4770K cpu by luck, it should outperform either 3770K or 3930K. But overclockability of 4770K is not consistent.

I have learned so much from this one thread that it's unreal. lol I apologize for causing trouble, though. There's no need to argue as you're all here to help. I'm not one to go make a purchase off one recommendation so I take the quality advice I receive and combine it with my own research before I do anything else. Thank You, everyone, for taking all this time to help me out.

That review was a great read, I repped you, as well. That confirmed what I thought, albeit I'm mostly ignorant about 2011 lol, in that the 3770K and 3930K will be similar for gaming while the 3930K will eat everything in terms of multi-threaded applications and CPU intensive workloads.

Honestly, I enjoy new tech as much as the next guy, but Haswell just does not give me comfort in purchasing it. It's very possible that I get a chip which won't overclock far past 4 Ghz and will run hot as all hell while doing so. Not to mention, I would have to shell out $300-$350 to get a Z87 Motherboard to pair it with that will support 3-4 GPUs. Financially, that doesn't make sense to me when I can handpick my 3770K or 3930K by the batch #'s and, while it isn't guaranteed, be far more likely to get a great overclocker which will outperform the 4770K at lower clocks, anyway.

To be honest, it legitimately seems to be a tossup between the two other options. If I manage to find a great price on the 3770K, I could end up getting comparable gaming performance to the 3930K for $400-ish while the 3930K setup will run me at least $600. Now, obviously, outside of gaming the 3930K is going to be superior so if I can't find a nice deal on the IVB chip, then SB-E it is for me. thumb.gif

What do you guys think? Is that a good conclusion to make all of this? I'm trying to be a smart consumer and maximize my performance without emptying my wallet. lol

Trust me, if I lived near a MC, one of those $229 3770Ks would be in my computer right now. tongue.gif

I live near Roanoke in the southern part of the state so the nearest MC to me is ~ 5 hours away and in Ohio. lol

MC raised prices on 3770Ks to 250 so they are still cheap just not as hot.

That said Borlandi says yes, tri gpu is better with x79, then he says you can get by with Ivy. Which is it, I'm not sure but I know in highly threaded games more cores will be a benefit. An easy ex. is BF3, where quad core chips w/o HT suffer from low gpu usage in large MP servers. And the future of console gaming is with 8 core cpus thanks to AMD's conquest of the console market. And thanks to their policy of demanding developers code games that will port easily, having higher core count is a positive feature going forward. Its something to think about. Also, I would not be buying into a dead socket but it's your money. thumb.gif
