Having a problem linking network storage to media player

Thread Starter
Hello all.

I recently purchased a WD TV Play media player. It has been working excellent for the past week or so, with one exception

I am currently using DLNA network storage to stream movies wirelessly from a designated movie folder on my computer straight to the media player. I use Windows Media Player sharing to accomplish it through my Library, but I've come into a bit of a snag. For some reason, WMP does not recognize .mkv files properly. So even though my media player is fully capable of playing .mkv video, it does not appear on the network storage because WMP does not recognize it and, therefore, the .mkv files do not appear in my WMP Library at all and are not picked up by the media player.

Is there a way to fix Windows Media Player (codecs/registry?), or is there a better way to share media files through a DLNA network?

I've used PS3 Media Server, and Mezzmo.
http://www.conceiva.com/products/mezzmo/default.asp

Mezzmo i've seen works the best. Supports transcoding on the server side, and adjusts quite well on different connections.

Used it to transcode to my Sony TV with no mkv support and worked great.
