Radeon 6850 "Permanent" Artifacts.

Thread Starter
A month ago or so, I purchased a Radeon 6850 for 112 dollars off of Ebay.
During the first several weeks of use, the graphics card ran fine with anything thrown at it, and just recently that has ceased to occur.

Yesterday, I noticed purple squares all over the screen, that are most noticeable on a white color. When playing games, there are evident artifacts in various places, but no driver crashes, no high temperatures, just artifacts everywhere.
I understand that generally, the memory is the cause of artifacts, but I don't understand why artifacts are occurring at factory clocks and voltage.
However, I do think that this progressive "dying" of my graphics card is coming from the vigorous overclock I had just a short while ago - 1025/1200

How can I permanently prevent this issue from occurring if possible, or is there no hope for this gpu?
My 7770 and 6770, and 4350 work and do not cause any visual issues...

Also, two days ago, I left the gpu at rest with stock clocks for a while and the issue was resolved, but this no longer works and now the dots and squares stay on screen for as long as it is on.

If it's out of warranty then a reflow is your only option.

After re flow attempt number 1, there is noticeable improvement but the artifacts although in a lessened magnitude, do indeed still exist.

Reflow one.

you can see there that the artifacts are barely visible, but the purple squares still are abundant across my screen.

Sounds like it was a reflow card to begin with.

The one card I had to reflow didn't last more than a day, it was an NV card though.
Hopefully yours will hold up.
