First time build

Hi!

Been lurking around here for some time.

I have an i5 660 (dual core with HT) and thought it would be time for an upgrade (over the summer). Never build a PC before, but it it's doesn't seem too difficult. The most fun is probably to pick the parts :-)

Usage: Web browsing and a little gaming. I don't have an discrete graphics card today.

My idea for a mAtx build with what I hope is quality components:

Case: Fractal Design Arc Mini R2
Mobo: Asus Gene VI
CPU: i5 4670K
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Tactical LP 2x4 GB 1600Mhz (CL8) (I already have these)
PSU: Seasonic X 650
Cooler: Noctua U12S (wondering if an extra fan is worth it)
SSD: Samsung 840 500 GB
Storage drive: WD Green 3 TB
Graphics Card: Asus 7950 TOP V2 (or wait for 8950?). Have 1080 monitor today but may go 1440 in the future.
Optical Drive: LG/Asus BD-ROM
OS: I'm going back and forth between Win7 and Win8. Don't know what I will get in the end.

Only one GPU. No SLI/Crossfire in the future.

I'm also gonna get an Intel Centrino 6235 wifi card. But am I correct that I need 2 wires likes these (length required?)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/inches-U-FL-pigtail-RP-SMA-female-connector/dp/B003S03DGM/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=2HZH1ONBCBGQ1&coliid=I110UQ6VN4SCKV

and then 2 antennas as it is not include with the Gene board.

I will try to OC the chip of course, but would like to stay on air cooling.

Any comments on my build is greatly appreciated before I start buying.

Decent setup, my only concern is with the PSU, try get a 600 - 700W PSU just for the headroom if your heavily overclocking the chip.

I'm not sure about the Intel Centrino 6235 Wifi card configuration.

I hope this helps

No, that PSU has way more than enough power. However, there are better PSUs to be had than the Dark Power Pro PSUs. They're not bad, but I want to help find a better one without increasing the price too much.

Thanks for the feedback. I choose the Dark Power Pro because it looks awesome, I can only find positive reviews and it can power and control the case fans (I'm not sure how well this feature works). I'm open to better alternatives.

I have also been considering a fanless PSU, but is concerned about heat build up with GPU so close.

Only the 1200W Dark Power Pro can control case fans (up to 4 can be connected to it and it can then regulate them somehow).

Anyway, the only online UK stores I know of are Scan.co.uk, Overclockers.uk, and Aria.co.uk. I would use Amazon.co.uk, but they don't have a PSU section that I can browse.

I didn't find any PSUs at Aria.co.uk that I would recommend, so here are the ones I did find (they all have all the power you'd need):

I'm not trying to push SeaSonic on you. It just happened to turn out this way that all of the ones I wanted to recommend ended up being SeaSonic units. Anyway, my choice would be the 550W SeaSonic G Series because it's only £8.05 more than the 450W model and it's superior to the 550W BeQuiet Dark Pro Pro, and it costs less.

Dont the Be Quiet Dark Power Pro P10 has a fan that is so silent that you wont hear it most of the time

The Be Quiet Dark Power Pro P10 is one of if not THE most silent PSU´s with a fan you can buy

And 550 watts is more then enough power you dont need more
