What is the proposed purpose of the build? The board isn't going to fit into that case, that sever board should be using registered memory and if you're doing anything intensive that requires dual cpu's you're likely going to want quite a bit more of it.

The board has an ATX form factor as does the case so it should fit. That said, the actual dimensions of the board is 12X10. I will check with Fractal to confirm. The purpose of the machine is to run simulations that are CPU intensive. Will probably upgrade to 32 meg and yes it will be registered. Planning on using Windows 7 as the OS.

oh, and that's 16GB DDR3 REG

You don't need that 1000W PSU, a decent 600 watt one will do.

This case will accommodate the motherboard without a problem. Make sure there is enough spacing between the CPU's, as there have been cases where Noctua/Prolimatech coolers wouldn't fit properly.

Make sure you get ample cooling, those CPUs run hot, my 2640s idle at 32c, however they never break 50c under load.

some updates on my parts list:

Looks like will go with either 4 sticks of 8gb or 8 sticks of 4gb ddr3 reg.

replacing the coolmaster 1000w with Corsairs AX 760w.

Not sure what to do about the heatsinks. Want the machine to be very quiet. Can I just replace the fans on the stock coolers? If so, what fans?

Lastly, really not sure what do about the GPU. Any suggestions? The build is mainly to run oracle 11g and SAS (a statistical package) to do simulations. I was thinking about a mid- range gaming graphics card around $225(?)

will also need to add dvd/cd r/w od.
