IDE hard drive to Sata MB?

Thread Starter
My newegg order came in with my wifes new Gigabyte F2A55M-HD2 MB.

Looking at the board I noticed it has no IDE outlet for the HD.

Anyone know if a adaptor is made to covert the ide drive to sata on the MB?

Thanks

Just a note.... IDE-to-SATA adapters often tend to "fickle".

yes and they are cheap. However they come with mixed results. I would instead get a pci or pci-e card that has ide ports like this

Why not just get a controller card? Seems like that would work out better than an adapter cable.

I've used this adapter to save a couple of old hard drives and it works just fine for me and its even on sale. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812232004
Though I haven't tried it on a optical drive yet. IF you do go with this make sure you plug in power to both the adapter AND the hard drive.

Inline adapters and controller cards use similar controllers.

I can guarentee that the Jmicron JM20330 has duplicated logic blocks as in the Jmicron JMB363. (The inline adapter vs the PCIe adapter).

OP, why even bother spending money to keep a IDE HDD around? You're spending like $10 or 1/4 the price of a larger/faster/new HDD. If you don't the space, a 64GB SSD isn't too fair out of reach either.

I didnt even think of a pci-ide controller card and I have one in a box of old parts..

Sata drives are so cheap ill just replace it.
