GMail, IMAP, and Outlook 2013

Thread Starter
I'm trying to properly set-up my GMail account with Outlook 2013, and I'm having a little trouble getting Outlook 2013 to play well with Google's IMAP labels.

I turned Auto-Expunge to Off, and told it to send messages that are expunged by the e-mail client to Trash, which seems to be working alright for now (when e-mails are deleted from the Outlook inbox, they are sent to the trash folder in the GMail browser client), but problems arise when I use Outlook's permanent delete shortcut. I often just use shift+delete, instead of just delete, which skips trash and permanently deletes the e-mail, but it seems GMail doesn't see this and keeps the e-mail in the Inbox even when it's deleted from Outlook.

I could just forget about it and use delete, but it still irks me and I was wondering if anyone had a solution.

Thanks!

I think this may just be due to how a delete command is interpreted by IMAP protocol on googles mail servers. It may actually be a measure google put in place on purpose to help users recover mail if they accidentally delete something, as opposed to allowing them to do a permanent deletion.

Outlook and IMAP generally do not get along very well (my tin foil hat says that it's because MS wants you on Exchange instead) but I've heard that IMAP works particularly poorly in Outlook 2013. I wouldn't rule that out as at least contributing to the problem.
