Gaming Laptop?

I'm in the market for a gaming laptop for ~$1000. I'm in the US. My only thing is that it cannot have Windows 8 under any circumstances. Thanks for any help.

Windows 8 is a fact of life on most laptops you will find new. But don't let that stop you from fresh installing windows 7 on it.

I recommend a MSI http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152392 Though I am not seeing any info on the GT660m GPU. Taking that at face value, it will either be a overclocked GT650m, or a underclocked (maybe even exactly the same) GTX660m. Otherwise, it is just about average for an upper end system.

Or Lenovo makes a good product also. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834312439. This is a trade off though. You get a SLI config, but at the cost of 1/2 power if you run into a game/app that does not support SLI.

Ugh it really annoys me that choosing not to get W8 limits what laptops you can get so much. Am I the only one that hates W8 with a passion?

You are not the only one, but there are ways.

What specifically do you hate about it?

Just clean install WIndows 7 on it... what's the big deal, there are guides on it all over notebook forums
I got over Windows 8 in a few days. I just don't touch the Metro UI and it's all good. Windows 8 boots extremely fast which is useful for me, (booted under 15 seconds with a 5400RPM HDD)

To answer your question, MSI has come out with really decent Haswell laptops, and so has Lenovo with the Y510p. You should look into ASUS G laptops but I'm not sure if they're out with Haswell/700 series GPUs.

W7 OEM is like $100 though right?
aye, that it is. You are dodging the question though. Why do you hate windows 8? The good far outweighs the bad on it. Actually with teh programs available, there are almost 0 negatives.

Lol i'm not dodging the question. I don't like how W8 doesn't have the bar at the bottom and it has the really stupid block thing. They're trying to make everything like the xbox thing or the windows phone tile thing or whatever it is and it is stupid and unintuitive in my opinion. I mean just look at newegg... W8 has 3 eggs and W7 has 5.

From a review on Newegg:
"Unnecessary learning curve. Unnecessary extra step to get into Desktop environment. Little thinking on Metro Interface for usage with a mouse. Ugly square boxes without visual indication of status/function. Step back from Win 7 in many ways. Eliminated Start button that was in Beta version (an insane decision). Will not play DVD's out of the box. You are forced to download apps to make it work right."

Aye, give it a rest already. People making generalizations like that are keeping a great product from being seen. There are 2 options really without taking a step backwards.

1. Give it a shot. You may find you actually like it. It does really well on startup times, as well as shutdown. The file handling is a little better (manages a few seconds (3-4 on average for 50MB files for me) faster transfers). The metro interface is perfectly usable with a mouse (I have no touchscreens outside of phones/iPods), and whomever said there is no visual indication is BLIND. Every square has its name (and with default apps this is generally the function also) has its description right below it.

2. Give it a try, but ditch Metro. There are plenty of apps that will let you put the windows 7 task bar back. The only downside to this is you have to download an app (be it freeware or commercial). Not really any other downside to it.

I stress though. Give it a try. If you still hate it after a week of use, then fine, but at least you gave it a good solid try. Then you could either convert it or wipe/reinstall.
