Air or water cooling solution for i5 4670k - Page 2

I've only heard one account of an AIO cooler running completely dry, so it's not a big worry but it's still something to think about when you consider a cooler like that. If you were gonna run a semi-custom loop down the road, I'd say the most viable option would be the H220. If you don't wanna do water cooling, go ahead and get a Noctua NHD-14- they're phenomenal. If you don't like the poop-ish color theme, get some different fans that tickle your fancy thumb.gif

Wait, is it 80C at 4.5ghz ro stock? If you are 4.5ghz, then I would only tell you to maybe get 2 fans for push pull on the 212 evo.

If you are at stock, then you have a bad mount.

Have you considered delidding the chip?

Its at stock speeds. i have the performance profile set in my mobo's bios. dont know if that influences voltage or just speed step behavior. Do you mean my heat sink could be improperly mounted? Ive seated it twice and still get the same temps. I get reasonable idle temps and in-game temps (30-35 c and 60-65 c, respectively). The stress testing just seems to push it over the top. I suspect my TIM might be contributing. Had a year old tube of AS 5 that I used, it was starting to seperate but i used it anyway.

Haven't looked into delidding. I'm a bit of a novice, as this is my second overclock. I may wait for the chip to become more dated before I consider more than the typical approaches to cooling.

Any other thoughts about air cooling a i5 4670k? It doesn't look like much research has been done yet with this combination. One review mentioned that air will hold with vcore up to 1.20 and closed water loops will get you to 1.25. Anything higher might require a custom loop. Anyhow, i've got both the phanteks and the corsair h110 coming so I'll probably do some research of my own. I'm guessing even the highest-end air coolers won't get me to 4.5, given my chip's propensity to run away, temperature wise. I'll have more time to fiddle next week. I'll post if I learn anything worth mentioning.

that totally depends on what kind of air/water cooler you get and what kind of cpu you get

that phantek or h110 is a good choice
choose one based on your needs and your budget

I have a corsair H70 CORE cooler with a push-pull using 2 corsair 120mm high performance fans. I'm using ARCTIC MX-5 thermal paste. What is a safe OC and Voltage.

Check some Haswell overclocking threads. I'm still working on my build and it'll be a bit before I'm ready to overclock.
