My onboard sound is a supremefx x-fi, that doesn't want to install under win7, the only solution I found lead to a dead link: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?226020-Solution-SupremeFX-X-Fi-Software

I bought and use one of those Creative SB1090's. Got one off of ebay, but I can't recommend it for just the mic. That's the only part of it I have a problem with and had to plug into the MB instead. The mic would be overly sensative and then stop working completely after an hour or so. That's just my personal experience with that one product, and it was purchased used so who knows.
I don't think running multiple usb sound devices is a problem. You can always enable/disable certain functions in control panel. They all show up seperately.
