Astro A50's vs Sony Pulse Elite Wireless headsets

I just recently had a pair of Sony Pulse elite headphones that I got for real cheap around $50 but they only lasted for about 3 months. The headset just stopped charging all together. The headset was used and my guess is the batteries died because it just won't charge. Does anyone know where and what type of batteries these take because I might be able to repair the broken set I have if I can find them. I took the right ear cup apart and the headphones are literally in pieces on my desk right now. I just have to get one more screw off in hopes that the battery is under the board under the right ear piece where the charger goes into. Otherwise those are just going to go in the garbage.

I was able to find another pair online for about $75 to replace them but these are brand new so I grabbed them at that price. I really liked the sound of the original ones especially when the bass boost was cranked up during gaming. Explosions/Music/gunshots/racing games all sounded awesome. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the short battery life usually like 3 or 4 hours if I went wireless but the range was great. I was able to walk to the other side of the apartment and still listen to music. I bought a long usb cord to charge the unit if the batteries ran low while in use.

I did some research on gaming wireless headphones and A50's are highly recommended by alot of users and I can get a great deal on those used for $120 but is the sound quality better then the Elite's? I was thinking about just buying both and making a decision but I don't wanna waste my money if I don't need to. I don't really have a need for 2 wireless sets but I figured I would just sell the pair that I didn't like. For those of you that have heard the a50's and the Elites where would you put you money in my situation? I know you audio heads go with other brands like Sennheiser but right now I am just curious on comparing just these 2 sets and I can't really find any reviews comparing these 2 models.

hey man....what headset did you end up going with. I just bought the pulse elite yesterday and they are good. But I really would like to know how they compare with the a50's.

I tested a pair of a50s a few weeks ago and I loved them but the price tag was to high. I was told they are just for gaming and nothing else. I also own sony pulse headset for my ps3 and they sound just as good. I watch movie and play my games with them and they seem to work well in both situations.

Thanks for the reply.

so you didn't notice much of a sound difference? I heard the dolby surround audio in the a50's was supposedly better but haven't seen anyone compare the two headsets.

Yea the new set of Elites I got were great and were working excellent up until today. I was 6 months strong with this pair. I purchased an extra long usb extension cord in addition so even when the batteries did die I was still able to use them. It's a shame because I really loved this headset. It met my needs for movies games music and just walking around my apartment late at night with a long range wireless. I was able to fix sandwiches while still listening to my favorite tunes. Loved the bass impact feature for racing and shooters and the so called 7.1 surround.

The new issue I am now experiencing with this set is a flashing blue light where it just blinks and doesn't sync up with the dongle. I read a few forums about it and came to the conclusion that I am just going to let the battery drain and hopefully when it does I will be able to re sync it back to the dongle. Other people reported this with successful results so we'll see what happens. Others said they weren't so lucky and had to RMA the product.

Although Sony will most likely RMA my product I am still frustrated. The first set I had Sony refused to refund me because I lost the box. I let that one slide only because I got it for $50 bucks. Then I went out and bought a brand new set which I also got a great price for online but this set only lasted til today. I hope they are still alright.

I am waiting to see if my headset will resync otherwise I feel bad for the rep that I have to speak with at Sony. Not to mention there technical support is horrible and I got more info out of there forums then on the phone.

My headset re synced after the batteries died its a miracle lol. Im just glad they are working again I love these headphones. I don't know why that happend but it better not happen anymore smile.gif

I then went ahead and connected the headset to the ps3 via mini usb to usb and downloaded pulse manager app:

They got things like the gta V audio profile on the manager which is pretty cool but I got some other ones and wow these headphones really have alot more life to them now. I still use some of the original profiles mixed with some of these new ones and it sounds absolutely perfect for what I do everyday. These audio profiles were a game changer .

-Music
-Hiphop
-Action
-Movie
-Shooter
-Game

These settings are awesome for anything I do. It sounds perfect with these profiles depending upon the application your using. The racing profile is pretty cool also if your playing alot of racing games. You can really hear that engine peak and tires schreech. Movies sound awesome also. What settings are you guys using with this set? To think I bought both headsets for less then $120 for both is just an absolute awesome deal even though I got one crappy set still less then what I would have paid for a set of Astros. Ebay got me a great deal for them and I reccomend them highly.
