Recommend a 1TB HDD (internal)

Thread Starter
What do you look to determine which HDD is better? Most of the HDD's I see on newegg are 7200 rpm and 64mb cache, how do I know which one is better than the other?

Any recommendations? Used/older models is okay as well

If you want something fast the Western Digital Caviar Black drives are pretty awesome but there really isn't a big difference when it comes to modern HDD's (provided you're comparing 7200RPM drives to other 7200RPM drives).

I have a 2TB Seagate Barracuda drive myself, it's pretty fast and I couldn't be any happier, I'm sure the 1TB version is just as good. thumb.gif

The WD Blue 1TB model WD10EZEX is probably your best bang-for-buck choice.

The major difference between it and the WD Black 1TB model WD1002FAEX (besides the $25 difference in price) is that the Blue is a single-platter drive based on a newer design than the multi-platter WD Black.

The WD Blue's only real downside is that it's only got a 2yr warranty, unlike the the WD Black drive's 5 years.

yeah, really you can almost buy based on brand loyalty unless you know for a fact a particular line has a higher ROF.
for 1TB storage drives, i personally love the WD blue line. i feel line they are decently quick and have a good price/reliability.

The blue has 3 years warranty vs 5 years

BUT its much faster (fastest FAEX I googled was 105 mb/s transver, mine is much faster.

I paid $65 for the WD10EZEX and its pretty quick:

Also there are no difference of performance between a 32 and a 64 Mb of cache so don't get influenced by that. (but don't settle for anything under 32Mb)
