CrossfireX 7970's or wait for 9xxx?

So now that they've officially announced that the 8000 series is reserved for the Mobility market, the 9xxx series is to be the next release for the Desktop PC's.

In that regard, it is a good idea to wait for those cards to come out?

Will they be out roughly the same time as Streamroller? As that's when I intent on upgrading next (In regards to CPU/Graphics).

I currently have the DC2T which is voltage locked, so I would relly prefer not to get a second one as the overclock is so limited. but the cards do perform well.

I will be getting reference card/cards if I wait for the new cards to come out as I intend to get waterblocks and a custom loop.

There no point getting waterblocks for DC2's due to the voltage lock, my card sits between 46-52 C playing BF3, at the highest clock I can manage, so the cooler does work well, just a shame we cant actually take advantage of it...

What would you guys do? Crossfire 7970's? perhaps get two different cards that aren't voltage locked? (the DC2T at my shop was almost 600, another reason why I don't want to get a second, the voltage lock and limited overclock is the killer though) or wait for the next gen cards to come out?

Are there problems with crossfire configurations vs single card setups? I heard the frame times are alot higher, but does it actually effect performance?

Sorry about the million questions lol

I'll br getting the 8350 next week, would it perform much better than the 1090T BE at 4Ghz, and NB at 3.1Ghz? It's 229 here, the 8320 is $40 cheaper, I heard that they overclock roughly the same and people are getting the 8320's to save money.

As I'll be upgrading to Streamroller when it hits, not sure if I sohuld get the 8350, then again its only $40, but I could spend that on some better ram or something I guess, currently running the Corsair 1600mhz ram at 8-9-8-22-32 1T

I know I typed alot, but I would really appreciate any replies/advice you are willing to share! thumb.gifbiggrin.gif

If you wait around for the next big thing you can wait forever

Just get another 7970 and maybe a 1440P monitor and you are set

Any 7970 in particular? I just got my VG248QE, so I wont be changing my monitor any time soon (It sells for $500 here frown.gif)

Your 7970 is still better than anything that isn't a Titan or 690 so I'd wait.

About my ram, is it worth while going 1866/2133? Currently at 1600 mhz, but wondering if its holding me back at all, sometimes my games lag and my fps seems fine, and running a 840 pro ssd, so fairly sure its not spooling lag...

I have the sabertooth R2.0 990fx board, it says it only supports 1866 but I could likely get the 2133 to run at its rated speed. Would it provide a noticeable difference?

Would be going from 8gb 1600 8-9-8-22 to 16gb 2133 11-11-11-30 (could likely reduce the timings a little though, that's rated speed)
