What a long, strange trip it’s been. Once the most popular smartphone platform on the planet by a massive margin, Symbian is now officially dead. The Financial Times on Wednesday reported that Nokia has built and shipped the last batch of Symbian smartphones it will ever produce. The platform will now fade away, remembered only occasionally alongside other mobile operating systems that helped shape an industry before being crushed by their successors.

My favorite phone ever was Nokia 6600, at the time it was mind blowing how many things you could do with it,from playing .avi files to using it as a remote control ...

Somehow managed to never use a symbian phone.

The N95 was the last and best Nokia I purchased and when the time came to replacing it there was no comparison to a newly released Nokia at the time, nothing even came close.

That name lol I'm thinking of something else where that name had gotten a lot of traction before smartphones were a big deal.

Symbian had a good run. Here's to hoping Nokia's Lumia bet will help them stay afloat and that competition will continue to drive innovation and price drops for our benefit.

Me too! I couldn't afford one so I ended up buying the N78. It was still pretty awesome for it's time: Wi-Fi and GPS at a sub-300€ price point!
