AMD Phenom ii 975be overclocking...

Thread Starter
I was wondering how much higher this chip could go on air cooling?
And HOW?

I bumped the multiplier to 20.5 and got 4.1g
tried going to 21 on the multi for 4.2g and no go crashed after about 20 min of prime95.
any suggestions?

There isn't anyway of knowing, every chip is different, so is every motherboard. Ambient room temperature is going to impact it, how well of a mount you have with the cooler, temps, etc etc etc.

Although I was able to hit ~4.5Ghz with a bit of tweaking on 3 Phenom II chips, two 965's and a 975.

What are the temps of it under load? What is the temp of the room the computer sits in?

Ambient room temp is a little hot, but the Phenom II is safe to 55c at the absolute max....

There are several guides on here that are great in helping with an OC.

Here is one on OCN; http://www.overclock.net/t/525113/phenom-ii-overclocking-guide

This is on another site and is pretty solid as well; http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=596023

Both should get you figured out, as the principles in them can be applied to any board.

55c? Hell no tongue.gif Official it's 62.7c (CPU TEMP! Not Core temps!). So, keeping a margin in hand, i'd say 65c would be fine in stresstests as long as daily usage doesn't go over 60c.

Also, 1.5-1.52v max for reliable usage. 1.53-1.54v if your temps can handle it. If your all like, ''YOLO, I dun care about degradation'' then you can take it up to 1.575v even..

I would never push a chip to the max limit stated by the manufacturer. As that limit is typically the point where life span and other failures start to come into play. Though, you are correct in that AMD does state 62.5c.
