APU vs CPU - Page 2

can you post the total cost of both rigs?
Im pretty sure the HD7950 3GB will cost your friend a whole lot more than the apu build.
But if he has the money, go for the FX4300 and HD7950 3GB.
Or balance it out and get an FX6300 with HD7870

This. Its actually what I have sitting in my Newegg cart right now, along with a couple other goodies. But definitely 6300 and a 7870.

Also, the other day my friend came over with his 6670, and me having a 5800k, I tried testing the two out together and saw no major increase, other than smoother and a more constant frame rate due the dedicated 2GB of ram. You also need to remember that he APU will steal a min of 512mb from your ram so technically you will only have 3.5GB, I wish I had bought 8GB when it was cheaper.

EDIT: Just saw you were planning to get 8GB, so that wouldn't be a big deal then, and you could also dedicate more ram to the iGPU for better gaming performance.
