You guys are running your voltage way to high.

I'm running my voltage at 1.45V just to get 4.5Ghz on my haswell. Come at me.

Lol that is bad chip you have there what cooling solution you have, at some voltage and point in time you will hit a thermal throttling point. You realize long term that is very bad. 4.5 should only require 1.275 to 1.3 at most and that is below average. You guys need to read more. Do what you will though if your fine with that I'm not going after you for anything. My comfort level is 1.25 and I won't go past it. 43 is my limit can't go any further unless I lower ram and change to a serious high voltage.

A lot of the guys here are hardware junkies, they upgrade often enough that they don't care if the chip lasts 2 years instead of 10 years, pursue the performance & damn the consequences.
If you need your new build to last, nothing wrong with playing it safe. People do have different ideas about what is safe though, to non-overclockers you might look like a madman thinking 1.25V is safe, I would probably look like a lunatic to you. biggrin.gif

If it lasts me the next year or two I'll be happy. The difference between 4.3Ghz (which i need 1.291v for) and 4.5Ghz in starcraft 2 is huge so that's what I'm going to keep it at. framerates never drop below 60fps currently, but before it was going as low as 40fps. It's winter in Australia at the moment so I'll have to delid in time for summer to keep my current clocks. I'm using a corsair H50 with a big aftermarket fan and get 85C full load and about 75C while gaming.

1.4 V + H100i + Haswell = very bad idea. I saw and experienced some crazy temps with aftermarket coolers even like H100. I saw few build lately with i7-4770 and i can tell u thats more likely bad chip.. Even with ivy bridge i5-3570k, Z77X-D3H and H100 after 1,32 V temps reaching 90C. I just try to tell u dont trust temperature reading . I think with gigabyte and 1.4V !!! after u hit power button temp are higher than 80C even with H100i. Maybe check memory timigs ? . Try different ram if u can. I have build 3 haswell rigs lately (more upgrades than complete builds) and in 2 cases ppl needed to buy new memory. I cant confirm that Haswell dont work with specified memory but it was no post or highly unstable especially with z87x-oc. Maybe because lack of XMP ? or m/b issue, bios, chipset idk..

Second thing. There was no go for two OCZ VERTEX 2 60Gb even after firmware update on Z87X-OC. Haswell dont like older tech ? hehe...

And for intel. When with stock cooler temp reaching 90ish thats really bad. Stock cooler is a joke.

Nah my timings are fine. This is just the voltage required for my chip and I'm okay with that. Only problem is I need a LOUD ass fan to keep temps below 95C.

Why even help this dude anymore. Overclocking is a big waste of time and this kid is upset because he can't hit some arbitrary number lol.

Why doesnt the OP list the voltages he is using for his OC? // This way more knowledgeable folks can offer some pointers on volt combinations.

*Or was this just a rant thread?

Thread cleaned of RMA fraud & swearing.

Please keep this in mind moving forward on this thread, hopes this serves as a gentle reminder. Been in this thread too many times already. Expect permanent lock if we can't follow OCN rules.

Thank you kindly, Arizonian

1.25 has been mentioned those are my voltages I choose to stay at with h100i and temps. My thermal limit. I believe 43 is my wall on this chip. Idk why I'm getting attacked when I have a ad chip.
