I'd get some VRM cooling before going too crazy.

You could probably hit 4.0-4.2 with default voltage, which wouldn't add a lot of extra wattage to the CPU. I wouldn't pump the voltage unless you add some VRM heatsinks or similar, though. The 83xx can get pretty power hungry at high clocks.

The M5A97 evo already has VRM sinks. That board should be a decent overclocker.

You don't need to mess with the voltage this cpu can easily hit 4.0ghz on stock voltage so you dont need to worry bout the voltage part.

Just oc it to 4.0ghz and make sure your ram isn't above its rated speed and your ht link is close to 2000 as possible and for now nb around 2000.

I am not sure if you need to raise the nb voltage for this cpu to have it around 2500 stable maybe someone else can chime in on that.

I have a similar setup as the OP except I have the m5a99fx pro r2. So far, Ive gotten to 4.1 on stock voltage just bumping the multi to 20.5. I do have a question though which could also be pertinent to the OP so ill go ahead and ask here:

At 4.1 using hwinfo64 there are 2 different cpu temps. Cpu [#0], which reads 43.6 during prime load. The other is CPU under IT8721F which reads 65 under prime load. I'm not exactly sure which one to go by or which is the one I really need to watch. Are those temps normal? Ai suite 2 also reads 65.
