Site Update Release Notes - June 13th

Thread Starter
Quick on the heels of last week's release, we have another round of updates which went live a few hours ago. For the curious, here is what is new:

Features and Additions

PM Replies Won't Count Toward Cap

We impose a cap on how many PMs users can send per day, with the goal of making it harder for spammers to sign up and send PMs to massive numbers of members. The change we've made today is to prevent a message you're sending as a reply to an existing message from counting against your daily limit - the limit will essentially only be for new PM discussions created.

Fixes and Little Stuff

#12933: A number of site skin inconsistencies were ironed out to improve visual consistency. You may see improved coloring on your forum sticky notes, dialog boxes, and a couple of other details.

#12902: All sites have a "forums" menu in their top tabs. We've done some tuneups to this menu which will allow you to get to the "New Posts" line of links even if your personalized forum list hasn't loaded yet. We've also adjusted the time delays on the flyouts to make it easier to drill deep without the menu disappearing on you if you mis-mouse slightly.

#13088: Users who do not have permission to add products to the database will no longer see the Add Item button on category pages.

#13238: The "subscribe" button on Industry Insider pages was broken by some Javascript updates in the last release. This has been repaired.

#12971: Featured articles will now list the article type name instead of the names of tags on the article.

Thanks for reading, and look forward to more soon. smile.gif

What's a "personalized forum list"? What makes it "personalized"?

I love the added delay. I would like it to be customizable, but I love it because now I no longer accidentally open the forums list when moving my mouse straight down from the tab or location bar (or "address bar").

By the way, I came to this thread because I noticed the color change and I wanted to see what other updates there are! I like the new color.

"Customizable" in this sense just means that every member sees only the forums in the menu that they have permission to see - for example, I have several staff forums showing in my menu that you don't see in yours. For that reason, we must build the list of forums you'll see every time the dropdown is loaded for each member.

Glad you like the new colors, we do, too - much more clean integration with our style.

What I mean by "I would like it to be customizable" is the delay. I would like a toggle as well as the ability to choose how long of a delay it is. Right now, it's interfering with my habit of simply touching the menu and then quickly flicking my mouse over to "Unanswered" so that I can then click.
