So my initial quotes aren't good.
I have the feeling I'm getting screwed with the price but at the same time aren't going to pretend I know more about steel fabrication than I do. $170 for labour and around $300 for the laser cutting so, there is no way I'm paying close to $500 to have this made.
Instead I've scrapped the steel design and come up with something I can assemble myself. New design is out of 8mm thick acetal and the rough quotes I've received have been around $100 so hopefully some accurate quotes are reasonable and around half the price of my original steel quotes.
Here's the design:
Total of six pieces cut from 8mm or 25mm sheet. Four pieces that make up the body (two sides with corners that click into the side panels) and a top and bottom. Whole thing is held together by x16 M3 screws. I like the look and design of this a lot better than the original steel design. So really hopeful this one is cheaper and even if not by much I'm willing to pay more for this design, I like it a lot more and it's a bit more original.
Also engraved it and put a indent for an EK badge to match my EK blocks since my clean EK blocks inspired me with this design and material choice.
This has been an interesting experience so far for sure.
