I have around 500 games for the PC. I've amassed this large amount of games in a little over a year... so my backlog consist of nearly all of those 500 games (I think I've only really finished about 5-7 of them fully). I'm guilty of buying games that are on sale for very cheap and for thinking... "well I can not go wrong with buying that it's so cheap!... I'm sure I'll play it!" Then, not touching it for MONTHS.

The main problem that I have, is that I start to play a game, do so for like 3-4 hours and then I end up getting a new one and starting on that one. So with the Steam Summer Sale starting in a little over a week and knowing that I will probably buy several games during it...

I've decided to chip away at my backlog 3 games a time. I am using Steam Completionist, to help me. So I have it set to only allow me to work on 3 games at a time, then I will hit random for the 3 game and work on those games. I have a few rules for it though, if it's a sequel, and I have not played the first game, then I will go to the first game. Then each game must also be a different genre. So I will re-roll if I get two RTS's.

The three games I am working on at the moment will be Total War: Rome, The Witcher 1 and Legendary.

Short version:
So I'm curious how large is everyone else's backlog? What are you doing to chip away at it? When do you consider a game done? When you finish the main story or when you have a ton of hours?

You can also consider console/portable games if you're trying to finish them.

10-20, excluding games I don't plan on playing/finishing. I only play at most two new games at a time, though usually I play RPGs and end up playing only one. Right now I'm almost done with my 3rd playthrough of DA:O, only three more to go afterwards.

50-100. I too buy the games during sales, often in bundles. I have 87 games currently installed and I'm slowly working my way down the list. In total I have purchased 328 PC games over the past 6-7 years.

The game pretty much demands six playthroughs; there's 6 different origins depending on the race/class you pick (Human noble, Human mage, Dalish elf, city elf, Dwarf noble, casteless dwarf). Each one has a different 90-180 minute opening of the game as you probably know, but the game changes considerably to each one as well. Dialogue is changed throughout the game, you're treated differently, and each one has their own side story and motivation to go through the game.

I use a few mods, such as Combat Tweaks, Immersive Atmosphere, small fixes, armor replacements (all Grey Wardens now actually wear Grey Warden armor), etc.

Yes, as a kid i always played all of my games through to the end, sometimes multiple times! That was because I only got games for Christmas and my birthday so if I wanted more then 2 a year then I had to save my allowance which was a good amount, but a game still took months to save up for. So I had more time with fewer games. Then I turned 16 and I started working in a supermarket, as I didn't like going out to party every weekend i could spend all my money on games. I bought all the games I wanted as a kid but could never afford, I remember the first time I bought two games at once 'Black & White' and some other old game. Didn't know what to play next and just kind of played neither, I've been restless ever since and I only rarely finish games anymore despite having enough time to play. I usually just refresh the OCN front page for the news, visit a national news website and look at comics and video's like 'Cyanide and Happiness' and 'CollegeHumor'.
