AMD FX-6100 overclocking. Need help please?

Thread Starter
Hey everybody! Got a question about overclocking. I've been building PC's for awhile now, repairing them, stuff like that. I've once and awhile I get the urge to want to try to overclock but I've never done it. I tried it once back when I was a bit younger only to have my PC not turn back on and had to reset it back by taking the CMOS battery out. But I'm not here to explain my life story to you guys.

I've had an AMD FX-6100 for about a year now and it works great. My temps idle at 14C and don't usually run too hot when playing games. My real question is what settings should I set my stuff to, to achieve 4ghz. I have an Asrock 970 Extreme3 motherboard. I know the risks of overclocking and am willing to take the chances. That being said could someone help me out? I know I should probably try OCing in small amounts to test the stability but I just want to know what I should set it to and try it out to see if it's stable. I'm using the stock fan/heatsink. Could that possibly be a problem at 4ghz? I tried the AMD CPU Overdrive Auto-Tune but I noticed it was getting pretty hot so I stopped it. So can someone help me?

And if this is in the wrong section then I apologize in advance. Would just like some help. And the reason for OCing is just to try it out. Nothing more really.

I think you can hit 4Ghz with stock heatsink.

Don't use AMD power tune, overclock in the BIOS.

I have the same mobo and CPU as you, and I can run at 3.8 or 3.9Ghz just on the stock voltage.

Hit delete when you boot up, once you get into the BIOS and lock your voltage to 1.3V, then adjust the CPU mutiplier one step at a time (eg: 16.5 > 17 > 17.5)

Once your OC becomes unstable, add a little voltage (like 1 or 2 steps) if your CPU temperatures are below 60C.

Overclocking is perfectly safe if you dont go crazy in voltage or temperature. Keep everything under 65 degrees under stress testing and you are good to go.

I think the stock heatsink can handle 4Ghz, but not sure.

Good luck, if you need more help just post here and peple will help you out biggrin.gif

And welcome to OCN smile.gif
