A friend of mine has been wanting a gaming pc for a while... Coming from a Mac there aren't many games he's familiar with at the moment, but I'm sure he's on the way to picking it up wink.gif

Anyway, his budget was initially $800, but he is flexible to maybe +/-$200 as long as the parts don't have to be purchased all in one go (over the period of a month). We're about to send in the order for the Mobo and the PSU since the deals seem too good to pass on; however, I did want to check if this rig is good enough.

Please note I realize that there might be a GPU bottleneck, but he wants to futureproof it for say -- 6-8 years? And this was the best build I could think of. If he feels the need to, he can add in another GTX 650 ti boost and another set of 2x8gb ram to improve performance over the next few years.

I also realize that DDR4 is coming soon and that even the newer intel socket motherboards won't be -- in technicality -- "futureproof." I'm still using DDR2 ram and I'm fine. Am looking to build my own rig in the coming months.

What do you think of the parts listed below? Anything look out of place/incompatible, or even just plain bad?

Insight would definitely be appreciated! He plans on adding a 7200 hdd later on ~ 3-4 months in.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($282.48 @ NCIX)

Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost 2GB Video Card ($209.03 @ Newegg Canada)
*For $145 before tax, might get the XFX Radeon HD 7850 instead. Still debating... http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=77797&vpn=FX-785A-ZNL4&manufacture=XFX&promoid=1283
Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link TL-WN781ND 802.11b/g/n PCI Wi-Fi Adapter ($21.45 @ Amazon Canada)

Are there any other deals I should be made aware of that could enhance this build?

Specifically with regards to the PSU, I've been suggested the following parts (prices here are before 13% tax):

SeaSonic SSR-450RM 450W ATX12V / EPS12V
for $80-- http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151124&nm_mc=AFC-C8junctionCA&cm_mmc=OTC-sho6b0tCA-_-Power+Supplies-_-SeaSonic+USA-_-17151124&AID=10657534&PID=749547&SID=rfdcb-d725

Corsair CX Series CX500 for $55: http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=11180AC1629&vpn=CP-9020047-US&manufacture=CORSAIR

And even the Corsair Enthusiast Series VX550 80Plus Certified for $50 http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=33_442&item_id=015941

Keep in mind I'd like to leave a little wiggle room for a potential second card and future upgrades!

Insight would be very much appreciated =]

Thanks plenty =]!

The Rosewill Capstone 450 or 550 watts would be a better bang for buck option then those

750 watts if you want two video cards

In this case, it would make most sense to look @ the Rosewill Capston 750, however it is also out of budget, unless I figure something out with the other components frown.gif

The CPU is at $240 Canadian. It's the most recent rendition of the i5 -- Haswell. The reason I chose to go with this CPU was just incase my bud wanted to upgrade his CPU. If we went with anything from the previous generation, the varying socket would not let him upgrade past the i5 3570k. I would love to get it cheaper, and the CPU is actually gonna be bought later this month -- hopefully prices go down and promotions are more aggressive than they are now

I love the modular design of the ax760i, but sadly it is definitely out of budget. My current build is running a TX750 and is powering absolutely nothing (I only realized this recently..) So I def. don't want to repeat the same mistake, but I also don't want to break the bank =]

650 watts could cover GTX 650 ti boost SLI

They use so little power that 750 watts would be a little overkill
